I had a jouef clockwork set as a kid, as Noel alluded to, a bit naff & not a patch on the proper Hornby electric sets my mates had, and the 'funny' small scale didn't mix with 00 stuff realistically, it did provide fun tho..seem to remember remorselessly 'shelling' mine with those Britains artillery pieces that fired projectiles, and similar abuse !

If someone ordered a 'black and tan' (ie the drink) and one jumped up from behind the bar brandishing a rifle.... maybe Foil, Arms and Hog should do a Monty python esque sketch...
..I'll get me coat...

Many decades ago we did the reverse with a band I was in..we put on a bunch of huge wigs, borrowed some dresses and were a very dodgy "all girl band" as the next act..luckily no photos survive!!..,

More inspiration...I've got an old suitcase full of ancient 00 gauge track, much of it 'realistically' rusty !!

Now that is truly outstanding! The overgrown platform with the red van looks just like the bit of concrete behind me house!

Hi Porky If you look at Google earth you can get a lot of detail with out moving from your computer, that said there is nothing like a site visit to get you in the mood for modelling.
Colin
I was hoping that she could get some nice pics straight on like you were surveying it for measurements & scale, most pics online are from oblique angles...luckily its in pretty good condition and you can walk right up to it from some angles, tho as i recall not entirely from the field at the back that used to be where the track was..

Fantastic model, most impressive!.. The C&L is my main model interest too. Coincidentally the Mrs is visiting family over that way right now....I must get her to take some straight on photos of the Ballinamore station building, I've got an alfagrafix Ballyconnel station as a starting point that I'd like to 'convert' into Ballinamore !

3 dogs & 3 cats get any surplus here, not to mention the 5 pigs at work...

Open 'em straight away of course..!

Maybe they need to fit cowcatchers like on the old narra gauge.....

Tbh i bought the most cheapo 'set' off ebay, with a small ' compressor' and everything, it was fine for my basic purposes of wafting a bit of muck over locos / wagons....

Its over 20 years since I travelled to Londonderry by train. Traveling back to Dublin on the Enterprise but it broke down at Portadown on the Friday of Drumcree. Relief as I spoke in German or English mit ze german akzent vile I vas vaiting in ze paked staßion fur ze next replacement train tu Dubhlin, pretendung tu be a tourist rather than a southern fenian. Incredibly scenic on the North coast from Belfast to Londonderry.
Reminds me of the scene in Derry Girls where the Tommy Tiernan character pretends to be an Australian tourist when the car gets stuck in an bunch of marching Orange men...

Just purely as my opinion,( re above!) I always think weathering is best, I liked the look of stuff that's had hard use in real life, that said, my main interest is narrow gauge steam in the later days, so there's great scope for stuff looking battered and filthy!..

Always thought of it as an English thing really, there was certainly a an established trade on BR...though seem to recall in the press a while back an Irish pigeon sold for some insane amount , over 250,000 or something ...my only involvement has been shooting them I'm afraid to say, we always found them a feckin' nuisance, crapping all over the horses and their rugs etc.

As regards hand coaling, in Ireland there was never a shortage of lads willing to do a bit of heavy shovel work for a couple of shillings..
