  1. Just found KMCE's build thread for that loco, I never knew there was a Peckett saddle tank in Ireland! I wonder what use it was for the GSR
  2. Apologies- not Irish but some quick weathering practise
  3. Hmmm... I could potentially 3d print a firebox to slot over the boiler, and a new smokebox door... What was the livery for these before GSWR grey? Thanks David, I'll definitely be doing the new smokebox, though cutting down the tanks is a tad daunting-they are cast metal and the boiler is cut-out where they go, so I could end up with something very messy. That being said, if I did the new firebox on the 3d printer that may hide any of the boiler which is cut away for the tanks
  4. As Galteemore says, I think they are 'close enough' to the GSW cabs
  5. Which do we prefer? Either way I'll be adding false frames to hide the gaps
  6. Just stumbled upon this thread, don't know how I haven't seen it before. Incredible stuff!
  7. Getting things slightly 'back on track', I don't think I'll name the loco Pegasus as there is a real Pegasus that I'd like to do (that'll be why the name seemed 'right'!) One of the first locomotives built in Germany, in 1839 for the Leipzig-Dresden Railway. She seems to be very similar to a Stephenson Patentee, so I may just measure up Adler and change superficial details. I can't find a loco called Germania so that'll be the name of the 2-2-2WT, unless anybody has any other suggestions?
  8. A bit more progress tonight and some wheels drawn in to 'finish' the loco. In reality I need to draw the chassis as a separate component in due course.
  9. There's something about that era of railway modelling which I find charming- it may be the busy atmosphere or something. A bit like how I like the perpetually summer European layouts, where everything is clean and sunny and the grass is bright green. Somehow these concepts translate poorly onto British layouts, where weathering and realism are desirable. Vs
  10. Many thanks David. I'm looking forward to the Lion model, I did want to try to change the firebox from the one added in the 1930s, though it was reboilered in 1902 so what was there before is probably 'wrong' too, though there's nobody around to tell me what it really looked like! Thanks Galteemore, indeed! All very attractive prospects. I did really enjoy doing my German railway research. That being said, many aspects of the railways went undocumented. There are few details, for example, about Lion and sister loco Tiger as the L&M mustn't have found it a good use of time to document a pair of luggage (goods) locomotives initially used for banking. To this end I can probably sneak in the freelance 2-2-2WT as one of the unknown locomotives of the era. I'm thinking of naming it Pegasus or Germania. I also found a video of Mike Sharman's layout:
  11. I've now got a plan of action for my Irish stock. GNR(I) QGT 0-6-2T GNR(I) SG 0-6-0 GNR(I) freelance 4-4-0 BCDR 4-4-2T I'll work on these as and when I have the motivation, but as I'm sure is obvious I tend to bounce between projects and pick up yet more as I go along. Speaking of which... I managed to scratch an itch last week. I've been interested in early railways, and having recently done some research into the first railways and early industrialisation in Germany I bought a Trix 'Der Adler' set: This consists of a free-wheeling model of Der Adler, the first steam locomotive in Germany and a fixed rake of carriages, the first of which being motorised. I quickly realised that this means I can make many more pioneering locomotives to use behind some period stock, so I set to work making a Sharp 2-2-2WT. About halfway through I realised that some parts of the drawing didn't quite make sense and having a chat with @Killian Keane he told me that it was a freelance locomotive photoshopped by a friend. I'm pleased with my progress so far, and I'll design a second motorised coach so that I can run more than one train at the same time. If I keep enjoying this as much as I am I'll have to make a small layout on which to run purely pre-1870 stock.
  12. Hi all, I'm in a bit of a GNRI mood. Does anybody have drawings of the QGT class 0-6-2Ts? Thanks, Jamie
  13. Many thanks David, I'm flattered! Some photos that I took on the day:
  14. Unfortunately I've been both busy and distracted and so haven't finished my O-21 Hunslet in time to run it on David Holman's layout at Narrow Gauge South this weekend. I have however added couplings to my Blessingbourne, which means it's finally finished after about 2 years. I've also painted a rake of wagons to bring along to NGS, hopefully I can take a few pictures on some nice layouts!
  15. Current state of play. I need to make the tank supports thinner and do a test print to check the chassis fit. I think I'll use some card or brass sheet for the cab roof as I can make that thinner than I could 3d print a roof.
  16. It's funny you should say that- I've been using the logo of the Irchester Narrow Gauge Railway Museum as my drawing. It's virtually identical to Pat James' drawing, and one of the Wellingborough locos. I believe it is Peckett No. 1871: I was really tempted to get one of those Avonside 0-6-0s and fit it with an offset chopper coupling as the Londonderry Port and Harbour locos had for shunting L&LSR wagons: One could use Tillig dual gauge track for a little yard, and I reckon that'd be a very distinctive layout!
  17. Thanks David, I do really enjoy making plausible freelances. I think I only have two narrow gauge locomotives that are proper scale models of a real prototype! I decided that I'll do an industrial Peckett, as the wheels are just too small to do anything CDR/LLSR. They're only just bigger than wagon wheels, so would look very odd with pony trucks unfortunately. So, I redownloaded Fusion360 and started drawing it up: I'm going to add all the pipework and sandboxes etc to hide the hole in the boiler, also the chimney and dome etc. I'll be naming the loco 'Patrick James II' as I got the idea from the late Pat James' Peckett 0-6-0 drawing and pugbash: https://www.railwaymania.net/pat-projects-ironstone-diorama/p67jfpnz8wqt1xigcif27at3vi8qm4 To try and keep a tiny bit Donegal-y I'll paint it red
  18. While laptop problems have meant I haven't been designing anything new, I haven't been short of ideas, nor have I stopped modelling. I bought a Berliner Bahnen 0-8-0 chassis to make a freelance tank engine from, either in the style of the Basque Nasmyth Wilsons or a large Peckett. Having compared the chassis to my L&BER loco I'm leaning towards the latter as the wheels are quite small, giving quite an industrial look. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this. I've also been working on my 009 layout, which now has wiring for remote points and is being prepped for DAS clay inset track. Thanks for reading!
  19. Seconded, the road is brilliant and it's a difficult job making something that works from all perspectives. Now all you need is a local leaning on the wall whose eyes follow you around around the room!
  20. I'm afraid I can't add a laughing and a thanking reaction, however thanks for the kind words and pun
  21. Thanks to all for the help with the wagon. I've finished two variants and am waiting for wheels for them to arrive. In the meantime, while not Irish, I've finished up this for my LB&SCR narrow gauge freelance: I'm very pleased with how my simplified IEG livery has come out. Thanks
  22. The grass looks excellent, as do the colours of the rock. A really nice, realistic combination.
  23. I see you've found the Games Workshop shades, brilliant paints those. I would also recommend Agrax Earthshade as a nice brown, and I use Seraphim Sepia to get a nice finish on brass/copper painted parts and also to paint teak finishes. I'm not sure how well this scales up to 7mm but it may be fun to try.
  24. Hello there, Not one that you're after but today I spotted this, may be of interest? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133923653707?hash=item1f2e78c84b:g:EnMAAOSwWpZhguxY
