  1. A ruston will always be noisy! And yea id say there will be an issue converting the 88ds to 21 mm. We have only 2 views of it at the moment so i hope its an early 2021 release

The loco was painted in an unlined mid green (body and chassis) with red buffers (Shank and head) the only embellishment was the Ruston plate above the radiator.

There is a 1960  colour photo of the loco in this condition in "irish Railways in Colour" a Second Glance Tom Ferris 1995.

I happen to have that book, very interesting livery. I think all the rustons in all the factories had slighly different liveries seen here with the 2 mallow locos

  4. Bit of fixing up and the ruston above could be looking like carlow number 1. considering that hornby have done the 48ds and the senital they may come out with a 165 varient

Any 0-4-0 most probably might need 'keep-alive' capacitor to run over points without stalling

The 48ds comes with a flatbed wagon with pick ups if its a real issue, either way i think hornby can sort it for a new model in 2021

I'm still holding out for the Ballymena & Larne boat train.......

    Good to know!!

(That’s the RTR B101, “Maedb”, “Achill Bogie”, D14, D17, J18, Midland “Cattle engine”, UTA Jeep”, NIR 70 & 80 classes, and a range of DSER, MGWR, BCDR and Wisht Caaark six-wheelers sorted for next Christmas, then......)

    😁

dont forget G class, C class, 141, 181, 171, AEC railcars, another 121 variant and that's just the diesals. And this all has to be made by....lets call it next March!

In all seriousness though, if a IRM stranderd pre-assembled Maebh how much would we pay to see that...

I'm presuming you can DCC-chip them......

I will await their re-introduction. I'll need a green one - but I'll have to tell yer man not to put a light grey roof on it!

I can relate! I ordered a green AEC railcar set and I asked for a black roof as a pose to light grey. They also removed the lining in the green livery of a C class i ordered as that particular loco (C212) had no line or flying snail on its green livery. fair play to them for doing it I really apericiate sorting out my nitpicks!

  8. good to hear the silver fox model is getting fixed. Ive had great service with them so obviously if they are withdrawing it for issues with the mould then it will be back soon enough, while i myself arent interested in it, the Recent interest in 1960s stock might have meant the sulzers might have had more demand then usual.

  9. I was on silverfox models website and noticed that they have removed the B101 Sulzer from there options of Irish locomotives. I'm sure if you asked for it they might still make it but its sad to see an Irish model seemingly discontinued. I assume the demand was not enough?

Still, time for IRM to get the 141's, 181's and 071's onto their roadmap, if Murphy Models are not in a position to re-run them over the next few years.

I hope so, otherwise we might be seeing a non running 141 recovered from a shipwreck going for 642 pounds sterling!!

Leading coach is a GSWR bogie of 1910-20 period. By 1969, few wooden steam-era coaches were left on CIE, though NIR's coaching stock was composed entirely of such types.

It is interesting to see one in main line use, as they were normally kept in the greater Dublin area. By 1974, the last wooden stock was gone.

One to remember for buyers of grey or black'n'tan 121s; there's more scope for a realistic variety of carriages in a train than simply a rake of Cravens!

On another note, the length of this train, plus the wooden carriage at this end suggest it's been added on to strengthen the normal set, probably as a result of some special event.

In the early to mid 1960s, ex-GSWR carriages of this type were common in all types of passenger trains. Mostly green, obviously, until maybe 1965 or so, then all black'n'tan. I recently contacted Worsley Works to enquire as to whether they might do an etch of one of these (plus a Midland six-wheeler). Allen replied that he has a serious backlog of requests right now but will look into it. He requested drawings - I have some, but my stuff is all in storage at the moment as a result of a house move. I'll dig them out in due course.

there is a great picture of this kind of work, i cant remember if its a picture or a video but a grey 121 pulling out of dungarvan with CIE green and black n tan coaches. it actually looks beautiful with all the colours and the backdrop

Great work. I’ve built an F6 in 7mm and they are lovely - once you get past making all the curvy bits! What’s the donor loco - an L and Y 2-4-2T?

Yes the L and Y loco is the doner, quite a basic conversion. what your seeing in the picture is just drafts for the front of the cab, the coal bunker has been slightly modified already and were trying to get the curve right on those lovely cabs......by tracing images of the side of the cabs using office lense! not the most precise method in the world but it does the job.

Great news for my layout anyway as mark dunlea's number 90 progresses. however this from another keen west cork modeler is what will hopefully be a 2-4-2 class 33 loco these were replaced by the aec railcar sets.

    watch this space!

  14. B141 sold on ebay for 170 (came with decoder) and B165 sold for 180 both with boxes and in black n tan. 161SA in supertrain livery is at 150 sterling at the moment. definitely a lot more popping up on eBay at the moment due to the 121's i suspect?

Any idea if the station & signal cabin are still standing?

the station is long gone, signal cabin was stripped of all valuables and the brick base remained for years. i think its still there being conjoined into a horse stable on the platform.

Just look at the paintwork, maybe freshly applied? Even gives a look of pride in the place.

I think it was Norwegian artists who did all the station in west cork before closure, A common tactic to close down a line would be unnecessary expenditures like this to justify closing it. in november 1960 this paint would have been at most 1 month old!

For the last time people it is highly unlikely that either of these models will be re released by MM. We have gone over this a dozen times so I will not repeat the math involved but unless another manufacturer gets involved they will not be coming out any time soon

apologies I'm new here, I don't know what done to death and what isint!

141/181 were manufactured by Bachmann for MM, 071 was pure MM production.

so it would take A Bachmann collaboration for a 141/181 re release? while the 071 would be a lot easier. It would be nice if even one of the two had a second run as its impossible to get your hands on some of those locos, and the ones that do pop up are incredibly expensive.
