  1. More variety in the trailer department- 3 axle cement hoppers, bulk grain tippers, petrol tankers etc., and modern 4-axle cement and tipper bodied trucks (hino's and DAF's) that took over the country's roads during the boom! Large yard fork trucks to go alongside the reach stacker. Early 90's cabs, ERF, Bedfords, DAF 3000's, Volvos.... All of the above please!

  2. Attended the show today, and couldn't agree more with the sentiments above. A really great show, well laid out and something for everyone. It was great to see lots of families there aswell. The finished O'Connell Street tram layout has really come to life since the first time I saw it, really impressive! Also got to meet And chat with Dave and Eoin (baseboards and Darts) great to see people getting up off their behinds and trying something new. (Glazed Dart model is fantastic! Price is a whole other topic!) Staying on topic, would highly recommend a visit if you have time tomorrow! And don't bring your wallet, because like Warbonnet, I'm sitting here now wondering how I'm gonna feed myself for the next 2 weeks! Lots of bargains to be had!

  3. Hi Kirley. I'm watching the progress of you layout with equal amounts of admiration and envy! As you said at the start of this thread, it's a lifetimes ambition finally being realized! Can you tell me how your shed has worked out while all the modeling has been going on? How is it in the cold weather/warm weather? Anything you would do different?!

Also, would you be willing to share a rough track plan of what you have in place? I'm amazed at how much you seem to have fitted in. I'm hoping to get round to kitting out a 16' x 9' room/shed (need to kit out the house first, shed is probably in better shape right now!) and I'm encouraged by how much diorama and scenery you have in that shed! Keep up the good work!

  4. Good Evening all!

I'd love to be posting in the 'layout' section of the site, as I've finally move from apartment to a house. But dreams v reality has kicked in, and I ain't gonna be building a layout this side of Christmas! :SORRY: Anyways, I will have plenty of time to be adding to my collection of rolling stock, and a big gap in my collection is a 121. I've been plugging away with scratch built plasticard projects and am growing in confidence with each build. So... Contemplating a 121 class.

    1. Anyone can provide me with drawings or measurements?

    2. Any suggestions for an appropriate chassis?

I've a new workbench area set up for myself and camera is up and running so will post plenty of pics as I go along, and will lean heavily on the collective knowledge of this site.

    Thanks in advance!

  5. Just to avoid any confusion can the above post be edited... The Model Railway Society of Ireland in association with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is proud to be hosting a Model Railway & Hobbies exhibition on August 24th & 25th 2011 at the offices of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council/Comhairle Chontae Dhún Laoghaire Ráth an Dúin, County Hall, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin.

... reads 2011 in the text

  6. I've trawled the internet and still can't find ant reference. If I remember right, we had a 'picture of the month' on one of the former sites, and a picture featured here for a while- it showed 2 141's on a track panel train passing through the station. The station model captured brilliantly the signal box and footbridge, and I think the cement store featured as well.

  7. Hi guys. There were some pictures on one of the old sites featuring a layout with Arklow Station modelled. Anyone able to tell me more about it? I think it may have been a club layout, just wondering if it is still in existance? Can't find pictures on the old site, but the layout may not have had 'Arklow' in its name. Any help appreciated!

  8. Kinda following on from the other post re commisioning releases, I have the following question: is there much difference 'from the waste down' between a 141 and a 121? Are they the same length? Similar bogies? I'm wondering if an MM 141/181 could be used as a decent representation of a 121 should a suitable body solution be made available? (just trying to thing of ways to help MM sell some more stock so that they can commision some more great models!!!)

  9. From what I see in Marks Models Rathcoole there is still a considerable amount of the original twin-pack to move. That's a lot of money tied up that can't be released to commission a further run. 'Ireland' is a dirty word in the business world at the moment when it comes to securing credit, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were required to pay in full before commissioning begins. It's a big risk for a small business.

I would also suggest that this is Paddy Murphys biggest issues right now, especially with regards to producing a 121 for example. We are a small group (Irish modellers) with a finite budget. The lads like Marks and Murphy Models can only go on current sales to try and predict demand for future releases.
