Hi all, A quick non-train update from today. The Cunard liner Queen Elizabeth is in Dublin Port today. Managed to get a shot of it and Maasdam: Although I can make a train connection with this Luas shot: All shots from today can be found here: http://smu.gs/Qr6cNb Enjoy! -

Lovely looking models. Thought there was something wrong with them though, but then I realised they are far too clean for 071s! Will look fantastic when weathered. -

Hi all, To get the month started I spent some time around Dublin today photographing the going's on. Locations include: Killester, Clontarf Road, Dublin Connolly, North Wall, Portmarnock, Howth Junction, Dun Laoghaire and Balbriggan. Mostly the shots are off DARTs and DMUs: But I did also manage to get the two Tara sets in operation today with 086: And 082: All the shots are here, including the Taras in other locations: http://smu.gs/QnQ7YC Enjoy! -
I get paid for this?!

Hi all, Spent yesterday chasing the RPSI's 461 around parts of west Dublin on the steam specials. Managed to get it at Ashtown, Dublin Connolly, Grand Canal Dock, Dunboyne, and finally at Clonsilla: And as this shot of a DART shows, the weather was not all sun and blue skies yesterday: This shot of 230 probably sums up the day, sun and rain! All the shots from the day, including pictures of DMUs on local and Intercity services on the Maynooth line, as well as DARTs around Dublin, start at the link below: http://smu.gs/N6xLH9 Enjoy! -

Probably because IE wanted the new stock to return to Portlaoise while they bedded in and ironed out any issues while they were being commissioned. The units out of Connolly are now based in Drogheda and return to the midlands every week or two weeks. -

Hi all, Just one shot of note today and that is 22055 on the 09:05 Dublin Connolly to Sligo. Up to very recently only 22001-22046 could operate out of Connolly but that has now begun to change: Enjoy! -
Thought I'd share this video of 206 departing Connolly with the full notch-8 roar. When the Mark 3 vans are added, the Enterprise should become a bit more peaceful! Just click on the picture to activate video:

Hi all, Finally managed to upload the shots I took last Sunday of the RPSI steam special in Dublin. Pictures include 072 on the Craven set at Dublin Connolly: And 461 passing through Sydney Parade: Rest of the shots are here: http://smu.gs/MMAzsY Enjoy! -
Hi all, My second update from today is a special photographic survey. Last year I did a walking trip along the former Hill of Howth tramway: http://smu.gs/Nk3ipB Over two days during the last week, I went on a longer journey and set out to record as much as possible of the former Harcourt Street line. I started in Bray where I first recorded the remains of the original coastal route: It was then onto Shankill to join the Harcourt Street line proper, and locate the two former junctions there, and then head north towards the city and record such treasures as the Bride's Glen viaduct: This is then followed by joining the current Luas route at Cherrywood before reaching the former terminus in the city: All of the pictures from the journey can be found here: http://smu.gs/Nk4g5i Enjoy!

Hi all, The first of two updates for today. First up are from the Dublin area and they include the following: Luas 5023 on the Green Line has been given an AOA for 'The Dark Knight Rises': 079 worked the IWT liner from Dublin to Ballina today: And finally, work on the new bay platform at Clonsilla is now nearly complete: More shots of the above can be found here: http://smu.gs/LLdBri Enjoy! -
At least one Mark 3 was painted with a black roof. Pretty sure one also received a grey roof.

Thanks. It sort of did the IWT before. Darren Hall got a shot of it coming up Alexandra Road, after it had hauled the set down: -

Hi all, Bit of an Enterprise theme to today's update. First up, 082 brought two Mark 3 Generator Vans north from Dublin to Belfast today. They are due to enter service on the Enterprise by the end of the month. The movement is seen here at Howth Junction: I then popped down to North Wall to get orange/black 084 in some lovely sun arriving with the morning service from Tara Mines: As well as it heading down Alexandra Road tramway: It was then a quick dash across Dublin to get the highlight of the day. NIR's 8208 operated the 0820 IWT liner from Ballina to Dublin today. This is the only loco in the current Enterprise livery and has performed exceptionally rare duty on the IWT. It is seen here passing Platform 10 at Heuston as it enters the Phoenix Park tunnel, though weather conditions not as good as they had been for 084: Rest of today's pics can be found here: http://smu.gs/O4QAu8 Enjoy! -

Thanks. IWT is assembled down in the docks where there is no public access but it spends the night in North Wall Yard. It normally departs around 09:30, and sometimes they may do some shunting with it so that is probably best place to see it and containers. Failing that, the alternative is to go to Ballina where it can be easily seen unloading at the station: -

Hi all, As a follow-up to the shots from last Tuesday's exercise involving IE and Dublin Fire Brigade I have now uploaded a second collection from the day. These shots were taken and supplied by Iarnród Éireann to me and are from within the 'incident' area: It goes without saying that I am eternally grateful to the company for supplying these pictures of a rather unique event to me. Rest of the shots can be found here: http://smu.gs/NH2jPx Enjoy! -

Hi all, This morning in Docklands Station in Dublin, Iarnrod Eireann and Dublin Fire Brigade conducted a joint exercise which simulated a train/car collision: 29017 and 29018 were used in the exercise, as well as number of units from the Dublin Fire Brigade. Some more shots of this unusual event can be found here: http://smu.gs/MSi34H If you prefer the usual, I also got a shot of 222 on the IWT liner and 084 on the Tara which start with this pic: Enjoy! -

Hi all, Popped out to a few locations around Dublin today to get some shots, mostly of units, but some other items feature too. Highlight was getting 2809/10 at Adamstown on the Westlife special from Galway to Dublin, an epic run for it: But also of interest was IE's MPV 790 bringing some sleepers to Dublin: And 072 on the IWT liner: Other shots from the day can be found at the link below, which include other trains at Lucan South, Drumcondra and a few Luas shots: http://smu.gs/MKujE8 Enjoy! -

Hi all, NIR's 8113 brought a rake of ballast wagons to Dundalk today in around to run-round them: I also got some other shots of the shunt operation taking place from a number of different points around the station. Furthermore in the morning I went to Drogheda to see the DMU movements taking place, as well as orange/black 084 on the Tara: All of the shots start here: http://smu.gs/MFfbYE Enjoy! -

Hi all, Yesterday Northern Ireland Railways 112 paid a quick visit to Dublin: The purpose of the visit was to bring 186 back to Whitehead.
