Poppys Wood Tech jig was how I did the chassis for my Bandon tank, worked a dream, well worth the small outlay.  Am now doing a kit? ha ha for an L&Y 4-6-0 .How inaccurate can a kit be????

How far is Cork from Maam Cross? When I volunteered on the FR I drove from Banbury to North Wales. 162 miles each way, up on Friday and back on Sunday night! Friday was always a crazy trip to be there before the pub closed!  And sleep in a skanky old caravan.

Stable, now thats a new one! just looking in my desk drawers I need to keep the marbles till at least a ton! Then be able to get under the baseboard to do the soldering stuff, so give it my best shot or get the finger out. Killarney beckons.  

That is a very good idea David, I definitely see things that would be useful and forget where they are and spend frustrating time trying to find them again! I'm often told its an age thing!

looking at your closeup photo you did very well to get the finish you have. A zoom in and the printing looks like "measles" ! Much as I would like one I am glad I gave it a miss. I wonder if Simon Dawson can get his models resin printed?

Not 3d printed but a cheap Hornby hack to get a J 10 ish!  Started as a J69 and went from there not spot on but captures the feel of a J10, sorry about the background clutter.

I logged on to BRM this am and oh joy! no popups or ads of any kind. 

Looks very good John, all that shunting will keep the old grey brain cells very active!!! One of my favourite layouts Is Liberty St; similar principle, was in Model Railroader 15yrs ago. Hope its warmer in NZ than it is here!    

I get the impression that BRM is owned by Warners publishing, if I'm wrong please correct me but a post from one of the moderators gave me the feeling that "pay us money and we can stop the popups" feels a lot like mild blackmail. I'm with Mayner on the width of expertise and like IRM help is so freely given.

The pop ups are a real pain on my laptop but I wonder just how many sales/perceptions they generate?  Because it works totally counter intuative with me and makes me far less inclined to buy from anyone that bombards me with pop ups. This a shame because a well known supplier of DCC parts etc is only 14 miles away.

Thats quite a blow to the hobby. Scratch and kitbuilding has just become more difficult. I often purchased from them.

Another thought, the worm on my 00 works 0-6-0t is very sharp, as in cutting, and I wonder if gentle dressing with a jewellers file to round off the top of the worm gear would help?

Horsetan, I have no idea so I can only tell you what I saw and hope my cure to remove as much lateral play as possible works. Time will tell! and so will I if it happens again.

My 00 Works Bandon Tank turned the pinion gear on the axle to lots of filings and the worm would not then engage. I have put more packing washers between the wheel and frame and between the gear and frame to reduce the side to side play which is now less than a piece of writing paper. Thinner washers in the middle axle has increased the side to side play so curves are no problem! I realise the gears are straight cut but my aim with the extra packing washers is to keep the worm as close to the centre of the pinion during rotation. We shall see what happens! Maybe a High Level gearbox?

My SSM kit built B4 Bandon Tank runs amazingly well and I am truly proud of it.

My J15 is so far fine, runs well but my Bandon tank from 00 works stripped the axle gear after about an hours running on our club test track. Roderick supplied a new one free of charge which I fitted. Problem solved! And very good service, should I have had to do rectification? my choice but?????

Welcome to the group Dan, I know all the answers to your questions are already on the group just have trawl! But I know others will point you in the right direction.

I use 16.5mm track as do many on this group Provincial Wagons and Studio Scale Minatures will get you started and New Irish Lines is worth every penny of its subscription.

Also a thanks from me for posting those pictures, The Derry Road. it certainly does not look very crowded! I really thought it would be heaving with people sp gave it a miss!  And the group who offered me a ride were going at the crack of dawn for the 9.30.opening. Ah well!

Be selective with the offerings from Bachmann, Dapol Cambrian kits etc; and be prepared to do a lot of repainting after the surgery. Thats how I have done it, plus photos to work to and the help from so many people on IRM who have freely  given information. Most of my Bachmann & Dapol donors come from T&T fairs and swop meets. Welcome to another world!    

Sooo happy these are well out of my era! Or I might have had to find a under hand way to aquire some.
