  1. Yeah, once I get my 1991 VW Jetta on the road again I’ll definitely be volunteering with Dromod or Stradbally. I’m the meantime, I don’t think I’ll be making the trip in my old tractor… 30km/ph flat out and a 90km trip is wishful thinking… Although I could look into getting the train from Mullingar to Dromod..?
  2. I would volunteer at Dromad in a heartbeat, if not for the fact that I have no practical way of getting up to Leitrim for a day of work as I am too young to drive. I do plan on helping out there in the future, don't worry! I would hate to think of myself as one of the people who will forever sit recommend that someone else should do X,Y and Z. I already have prior experience in heritage and vintage works, restoring vintage stationary engines, cars and tractors. Just have to get some experience with steam traction in. In regard to your query as to why I would support the WCR even though it has a low chance of succeeding, I just hate to see such a brilliant piece of our history sit and rot away in the rain! I was down in Moyasta just the other day, and the whole place is in a desperate state, when only just a few years ago it was almost pristine (Judging by photos I've seen). Most of the resources are there, yet no one wants to do anything about it. I would hate for it to turn into a Tralee situation again. I forgot to mention, when I was at the site the other day, there was some fairly fresh looking plant machinery (a dumper, excavator and road roller) in the car park, which looked like it had been resurfaced with fresh stone. Is there something going on down there, or is the machinery just being stored there?
  3. Here you are, a side profile of SAMBO as seen in the book ''Locomotives of the GSWR'. No front or birds eye view profiles unfortunately, just this view.
  4. I did try to just leave holes in the print for that purpose, but unfortunately my FDM printer isn’t quite accurate enough to make holes of that size. I found these work best until I can find myself the funds to buy a resin printer to achieve fine details.
  5. I’m not familiar with the models you are referencing, but if you want west Clare rolling stock, you can buy the STL files for some of the rolling stock on the website “Cults 3D”. Maybe these are what you’re looking for.
  6. Hi there, glad to see my model has made its way onto this forum! I made this model and printed it not too long ago, I now have a motorised chassis on the way in the post to hopefully mobilise No. 299. I’ll post the progress int his forum soon. I might have a side profile drawing of the loco in my LOCOS OF THE GSWR book. I’ll have a look
  7. That’s just the thing. I would happily donate to the cause and give a helping hand to the WCR if only for that fact that there are no resources set up to aid or for that matter, no advertising whatsoever. Social media does wonders for things like these. I feel that when the people running these groups are all old heads who like to do things old fashioned ways (which is also fine by the way!), they never quite reach their full potential. For example, if the likes of the crowd at Dromod took to the likes of TikTok or instagram to advertise their museum and the steam services, they would draw of plenty more families and enthusiasts then they already do. I myself know plenty of younger people who are interested and involved in other vintage and heritage groups who would enjoy working with the steam locos. It’s just that they don’t know these places exist. I myself didn’t even know Ireland had a 3 foot gauge system up until two or so year ago.
  8. Well lads, Here’s a progress update on my 009 scale model of the Larne aluminium works Peckett locomotives. Tyrone, AKA Larne No.1 is preserved at the Giants causeway and Bushmills railway (preserved, although not very well kept) as one of its two resident steam locos. I have been working on an 009 scale model of this loco, having scratchbuilt and 3D printed parts as I progressed. My most recent, and highest quality iteration was originally created as a digital model which was intended as a modified add-on for a railway based computer game by the name of rolling line. Having previously used CAD softwares to create the first STL models, I favoured the video game model of the loco as it was far better proportioned and looked far more visually appealing. I rather tediously rescaled the model to fit ontop of my Bachmann N scale “Percy” chassis, and 3D printed the bodyshell. Now, due to the fact that the 3D model was designed and stylised to the video game I made it for, some parts of the model such as the dome were rather low- poly and sharp edged, which is something I’ll have to improve on. Paint was fairly straightforward, amber boiler, tanks and cab, ect. For the black border around the tanks and cabs, I just attempted to paint them freehandedly, which was partially successful. I have yellow line transfers on the way in the post, so the full lining will be complete soon. Thanks for reading, opinions on the model are welcome. I have yet to fully perfect the print, so expect another update or two. Cheers
  9. On the topic of contacting the owner, how would you go about doing that? I emailed the account that used to be on the website and got no reply. If worst comes to pass and the assets at Moyasta are to be sold off, there are a couple items I seen that I would be interested in taking.
  10. Could I get a link to this Facebook page please? Is that true that they expect that they could resume services in the coming weeks? That would be amazing! I would be happy to send them a couple quid in support. I would love to give a hand in person only for the fact that I live in Meath.
  11. Hello all. I found myself in Moyasta at the site of the West Clare heritage Railway. The site is in a very poor state, as weeds take over the platform and rolling stock rots away in the rain. It’s such a shame how the site has fallen into disarray. Is there any way it could be restarted or a group could be formed to help tidy the place up? I’m sure that if it was advertised properly and tidied up a bit, it would do well with tourists and the likes in the area. Does Jackie Wheelan still own the site and rolling stock? I wouldn’t mind donating a few quid towards the project. I’d love to do some work there too if only I had accommodation near the site. I also visited the ex CIE loco off the the other side of the road, which is in a deplorable state. I can’t see that thing ever running again unfortunately. What’s the plan for that? Photos of my visit attached below, thanks for reading.
  12. Those prices seem a hell of a lot better than what I've just seen. Used copy of the book asking for 292 euro!! Thanks for that one, I'll take a look. I'll still take a second hand one if anyone is willing to part with their copy.
  13. Hello all. I have been browsing online for books or other media containing information, photos and most importantly drawings of locomotives (Steam and Diesel) from the later GSR and CIE eras. The narrow gauge and standard gauge both greatly interest me, and I would love to source some drawings or diagrams of locomotives from these eras and model them. The book tilted ''Locomotives of the GSR'' has evaded me for awhile, being both out of stock everywhere I look, and being priced ridiculously high in others. Up to what years do the locomotives shown in the book go? The later and final years of steam would interest me most. If anyone knows where I could find one of these books (For a reasonable price!!!) or another with similar contents, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks again!
  14. Hello all. I have recently taken to designing locomotives for 009 scale on CAD, and 3D printing them. I have made a couple Irish narrow gauge locos, and I’m now looking to make some standard gauge ones too. Locos such as the popular 101 class, the VS class, and other miscellaneous Irish locomotives are what I’m looking to make next. I’m struggling however to find suitable drawings or diagrams of any locos whatsoever to base my models off. Anyone know of any books or other media where I can find drawings of not just GSR / GNR(I) locos, but any Irish locos at all. If anyone is in possession of any locomotive drawings or diagrams, please let me know, and a deal may be arranged to purchase some? Thanks again folks.
  15. I have the exact same Chivers Finelines T&D Hunslet model. Where did you source your lining from? Mine has just a solid red band and I'm not the biggest fan. Thanks.
  16. Hello all. Just putting up this post to ask, where do you source miniature builders plates / nameplates for your locomotive models..? I am looking for a set of Tralee and Dingle plates for a model. I was planning on going to the UK based Light Railway Stores website and customise some of their selection to resemble the plates locomotive 5T had in her running preserved years. I've now discovered they dont ship to Ireland anymore, due to Brexit I imagine. So that leaves the question. Where can I find etched plates for my models that are either made in or ship to Ireland. Thanks all. Photos attached of the plates I wanted to replicate. Cheers.
  17. Hello all, I'm writing here today in search of drawings/diagrams of what were the very common class 101 (GSR J16) locomotives. I need drawings displaying the side / front profiles of the locomotive, and any other good references of the locomotives shape. I need them for a 3D CAD model of the locomotives a friend of mine wishes to make, so details such as the boiler insides and other parts of the loco you can't see from the outside. Thanks all. Photos of the preserved example, No 186, attached. image.png
  18. Wil they be using them in the future? What price were they looking for for either of the engines? I just hope it doesn’t turn into a situation similar to 5T in Tralee.
  19. Hello all. I’ve been in Wales recently, on the Ffestiniog. I’ve been having a lovely time viewing their steam locomotives, which got me thinking about steam back home in Ireland. What has become of the two 3ft gauge steam locos at the giants causeway railway? I have never seen them in person, only in photos online. I Can’t seem to find much information about their current state, or why they’ve been left idle for so long? I might have heard that they were for sale, but nothing came about from the purchase. Can anyone inform me on their current situation, what they are doing now, and what is, if at all, planned for their future? Thanks all.
  20. Hi all, I recently visited the Ulster transport museum, and have grown fond of their little narrow gauge peckett they’ve got on display. I am looking to model it for 009 scale. I am on this forum looking for diagrams and general tips for making a model. I have previously made resin printed kits from eBay and the like, but have never made a fully home built model of my own. Please send on any reference pictures or drawings of said loco. Thanks all. Pictures of the loco below. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ulster_Transport_Museum,_Cultra,_Peckett_Locomotive_No_2_of_British_Aluminium_Co,_Larne,_County_Antrim_(03).jpg

  22. Hello all, I am new to the forum, and looking for a couple things… I am very interested in the Tralee and Dingle railway, and its locomotives. I have recently seen videos of 16mm scale live steam Tralee and Dingle locos made by John Campbell. Now, most of these videos range from 8-12 years old, leading me to believe that the channels they are on are no longer active, meaning my comments on said videos are pretty useless. I did some rooting around on Google, Facebook, all sorts of online platforms and I have found no traces of John Campbell or his models, except for a few old threads. Is anyone aware of how I can get into contact with John, or what details I could get about the models, eg price, availability, time to make, etc.. I would also be grateful to be informed of anywhere else I can get 16mm scale Irish locos? I may have seen a live steam Guinness brewery tramway loco floating around somewhere online.. Best regards —
