  2. Hi, Unfortunately ive had to start rebuilding from scratch due to a case of bad plywood and damp weather mixing together, have started the baseboard again and should have it finished this weekend. I will update in the next week or two. Have bought some more stock and have ironed out my backstory for the layout. All will be revealed soon:)
  3. Hi all, The cafe located at Kilmainhamwood railway station on the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway (former Navan to Kingscourt branch) are renovating the goods shed. They've put out an appeal for any old photos or stories of the station and yard. If anyone has any and would like to share them here itd be greatly appreciated, alternatively you can contact the cafe directly: @ GNR Christmas Trees & Cafe on Instagram/Facebook

  8. Hi all, looking for tara mines wagons, dickys or not, once they aren't blue. Will accept single wagons or the 2pack whatevers available. Cheers
  9. Thinking a pw yard is the best option, im from the northeast so pw traffic/tara/gypsum/cement is what i grew up with, just struggling to justify my idea for the layout as plausible
  10. Hi all, im currently building a micro layout based in the 90s/00s, but its come to a standstill as im struggling to find inspiration. Im wondering if anyone has any knowledge on small yards or industrial facilities that were served by rail on the network. Pictures would be amazing or even just some information to get me inspired again. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all.
  11. Hi all, anyone be able to tell me when the gantry crane was last used in navan? I know it was dismantled in the mid 2000s thanks

  12. After a few days in Connemara and a visit to Maam cross and Castlerea railway museum, i finally got my inspiration back for the layout. And with the weather this weekend it felt like no better time to start. Baseboard built and Track down, all thats left for the track is to build the sector plate and get it wired up. I shortened the layout again to make it easier to transport, now being a total length of 4ft by 18 inches. The era has changed slightly too, with the layout now being set between 2002-2008. This means there doesnt need to be a 2nd fiddle yard on the kingscourt branch end, as it was mothballed in 2001.
  13. Hi All, just a quick update, progress has been slow with the layout due to a house move and life, but the baseboard is built and track should be down by the weekend. I had to shorten the baseboard to 4ft by 18 inches, and have set it circa 2002-2008, now being the stub of the former kingscourt branch. Stocklist has been wittled down too, now mainly locos with some per way stock. I'll upload pictures over the weekend.
  14. Hi all, i have a few items im looking to sell in order to fund other projects. IRM Corrugated wagons pwd livery pack €70 Pm if interested.
  15. Anyone selling any irm fuel oil tankers? Cheers
  16. Glad to see everyone's opinions and a discussion happening:). I think a heritage line is a great opportunity, with an initial operation between navan and beauparc. A friend of mine helped relay the line 2 years ago, and stated its rated for up to 50mph which is more than enough for a heritage train. Seeing the range of positive feedback here, im considering putting together a group to discuss this and maybe get the ball rolling. Anyone interested please message me:)
  17. Anyone selling ballast wagons? Thanks
  18. Hello everyone, just pondering the current status of the GNR branch from navan to drogheda. No zinc trains will be running for the next two years with the redevelopments at dublin port, and with the proposed new rail station linking to M3 parkway coming sometime in the next 5-10 years, i wonder what the future of the branch is. Personally think with a bit of tlc it could be a lovely branch for excursion/heritage trains. Whats your thoughts?
  19. My newest purchase areived in the post today, Murphys models 121 class no.124 in IE livery. This and 181 class no.186 will be the motive power on the layout for the time being, looking at either a 071, an A class or a fictional private loco being the third addition. this allows me to have one loco running gypsum/ per way trains up the kingscourt branch, while the other is stabled in the on scene yard refuelling. next purchase, gypsum wagons!
  20. Im the same, narrow gauge is great but theres nothing quite like standard gauge steam. I suppose they could do the loughrea branch as far as dunsandle, as dunsandle is right beside the M6, and attymon has a rail link
  21. I agree, as a local of that line it would be a great option as it's still maintained even though taras haven't ran in well over a year. They are saying taras will be back in 2027 but with the new line to dublin supposed to be completed in the mid 2030s the taras could move to that line as itd be more direct to the port. There are a few problems however, such as the location of a stop in drogheda and running through platin cement works, i dont know if insurance would allow passenger trains to run through an active industrial site
  22. They could go under it but the cost would probably be astronomical, im trying to think of any other lines that could be used
  23. It's a shame though as there are steam and diesel engines preserved that aren't capable of running on the main network, mainly due to their size. Personally i believe that a well located heritage operation would draw in enough visitors, as you see how quickly the rpsi excursions sell out. The Ardee branch would be my own suggestion, its 90% clear as most of it is a nature walk, and provides the possibility of a mainline exchange at the old junction, as well as being on the main dublin belfast line.
  24. Hi Everyone, I was letting my brain wander last night and I've always found it a shame that there are no standard gauge heritage railways in the republic. I understand there was attempts in the past such as west rail on the Loughrea branch but I'm just wondering what former railways do yous think would make plausible heritage railways today?
