I will be forming a WhatsApp group to discuss this idea and to create a plan to put towards the respective governing bodies. If you wish to be a part of it pm me your number and i will create a group

Thought Id update this topic given it's been a couple of months since the last one. Nearly two months ago the NTA shot down the idea of passenger trains returning to the branch, as stated in this article here. https://www.lmfm.ie/news/lmfm-news/nta-rules-out-reopening-of-navan-drogheda-rail-line/ With this in mind, I do think it is the best possible choice if we were to ever have a broad gauge heritage railway south of the border. It ticks 99% of the boxes required, as @jhb171achill mentioned which i will respond to with answers to the criteria they listed. 1A. Navan is 51km away, a 50 minute to an hour drive from Dublin City Centre. 2A.Navan has enough space on the site for between 30-40 parking spaces, however arrangements could be made with the LMETB next door to use their carpark as an overflow on weekends. Navan also has good access for a low loader to bring rolling stock in, as well as a mainline connection. 3A. Navan station has ample space, the former goods shed could be converted into a 3 road maintenance shed, and the former gantry crane spur could be covered to house coaches. 4A. Navan to Beauparc is roughly 5 miles, which at the lines current speed limit of 25mph, we will say it takes a train roughly 20 minutes to arrive, meaning a round trip is roughly 40 minutes. 5A. Navan is a heritage town with many sites and attractions to see, all within walking distance of the train station. Beauparc is a short drive to slane castle or newgrange, both hugely popular tourist attractions in the north east. There could be a package deal done where customers can get on a heritage train in navan, travel to beauparc where they then can get a coach to either slane castle or newgrange, with these tours included in the package price.

Shame if thats true, some good stock that Im sure our numerous 3ft gauge railways would take. I presume if theirs no listing its a brown envelope job? Unfortunately, I do agree that it probably cant be saved, if if is if would be a very expensive project

At least unlike 5T Slieve Callan is still in one piece, and has been dry stored. Be expensive for sure but not a waste of money by any means

Last time I was there was pre covid and even then it was still a bit dilapidated. Its a shame as there is a lovely collection of stock and its an interesting site being a former junction. Unfortunately it has its downfalls being in a rural location not close to any major towns or cities. It would be lovely to see it tidied up and i would definitely throw a few quid towards it as well as a helping hand, but at the very least if it is never to reopen the rolling stock should be saved, especially slieve callan so we dont have a tralee & dingle 5t situation happen again. Not 100% sure what is the A class locos fate, hopefully it is saved for static display at least, since there isnt many left.

Hi all, seen recently a couple of posts on facebook about 3 baby GM's being moved from behind the FCR building to a siding along the mainline. Anyone have any info on this and why they have been moved?

Have a bid in on it now! Thanks for letting me know. The baseboard does look well with the primer, but that wont be the final colour. I will stop before i spoil it
-
After a bit of filler and a few coats of primer, decided to snap a few photos of the current motive power assigned to the layout. They're idling on the scratch-built fuelling slab i had made for the first version of the layout. Unsure whether ill keep it or get a 3D printed one. On the layout only one road will be still in use as a fuelling point, the line nearest the edge of the baseboard will be overgrown, used for storing per way stock. Just waiting to get my hands on a 071, as you cant have a 21st century navan based layout without one, it would just feel wrong.
-
Thanks @west_clare_wanderer, took a bit of planning as i wanted it to be operational from both sides, as its going to be displayed against a wall, and in case its ever in a show, i can then operate from behind. Should have an update by the end of the week.

Any idea where it was last seen? Shame none survived into preservation

I also got a list for him, told me he is away on holidays and will contact me when he is back home. Seeing this though is making me second guess myself.
-
Its actually not too heavy, just awkward for one person to move it around. Once rails are laid and and i get the front board installed and painted, ill move it into the house to complete it

Hi All, back with some progress on the layout, after a 5 month hiatus. As i stated previously a bad combination of poor materials and irish weather resulted in the layout being dismantled and rebuilt, slightly bigger & better! It now has a total length of 4ft 10in by 18in, allowing for a slightly longer sector plate for more flexibility. To remind Everyone, the layout is set on the Kingscourt branch, located at the level crossing in Navan, on the r147 to Kells. This Crossing was called Moathill crossing after the town land its situated in, hence the name "Moathill PWD". It's a fictional permanent way yard for ballast loading, with a fuelling point for locos. It's set between 2002-2009. If theres interest i can post the full history of this made up yard, and its uses over the years. Just finished with some wood filler on it tonight, I'll keep you all updated as it progresses. Cheers

Thanks for this information it's really helping me. Im going to try build some for my layout, its set between 2002-2009, which of the two variants would suit this period the modded or unmodded version?
-
Amazing photos, why were they modified do you know
-
What were they modified from was it the silvermines ore wagons? Do you know when this modification happened i know that they were replaced by the new 42ft spoil wagons in 2011
-
Hi all, wondering if anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to make a model of the barytes wagons that were used as spoils wagons in the 90s/00s

Hi, Unfortunately ive had to start rebuilding from scratch due to a case of bad plywood and damp weather mixing together, have started the baseboard again and should have it finished this weekend. I will update in the next week or two. Have bought some more stock and have ironed out my backstory for the layout. All will be revealed soon:)
