Not too many layouts based on the DNGR - I remember seeing one on display in Carlingford once, possibly entitled 'Ravensdale Viaduct'. Nice subject, the DNGR.

Sorry to hear this Andy. Castlederg was the star of the show at Cultra - and thank you for taking the time to chat to everyone you met, that makes it all the more enjoyable! Looking forward to seeing pics of Courtmacsherry.

Great to meet so many of our small community at Cultra this morning. I had to meet my cousins in the afternoon (non-negotiable family event!), so I left Dublin at 8 a.m., drove to Cultra (hardly any traffic!), and spent the best part of two hours there. The drive back, punctuated by a 20 minute catnap in a layby and coffee in Applegreen, had me home by 3.
Great venue, except that the 12ins - 1ft exhibits are far too close together; photography is quite impossible. Equally, all the things in glass cases like the GSWR dining car model, or Drew Donaldson's locomotives, are also impossible to photography because of the glare on the glass. You can't even see them properly. The model of the 500 class (was that one of Montgomery's?) is hidden in a corner, impossible to view properly. The curved pathway makes a journey to the loo into a major expeditionary voyage.
But the layouts were great! And some of the static models were truly outstanding.
Looking forward to the next one!
Nice to see you JB - that was a mammoth effort to get to Cultra and back! Agree with the above, would also add that generally speaking, the light isn't great in the gallery, for an event like this, as I found out to my cost when exhibiting Ballynahinch Junction back in 2010. Most seasoned exhibitors now know to bring their own lighting but a few new exhibitors were caught out a bit today, as I was in 2010. Highlights for me were Andy Cundick's sensational 'Castlederg' as well as the LEGO model of Lisburn!!!

If purchased mail order, any chance you could put a docket on the outside packaging paper stating "Contains Viagra"....just in case the wife takes delivery of the package?

Same - started off encouragingly but hasn't lived up to expectations. Am holding off to see 'The Mother of all Layouts' to be built by the winners.......

As a dedicated steam fan I have to be totally honest and say......I'll be getting one. The specs are mouthwatering and for what is on offer, the price seems very very reasonable. Hats off to all involved!

They could. Certainly Cork to Bandon anyway, and a Luas from Ballincollig into the city and in out towards the airport / Douglas area.
Senior had relatives near Birr - and knowing him, cycling there from Birdhill wouldn’t surprise me at all, as he would sometimes cycle from Ranelagh to Liffey Junction or Inchicore, or occasionally to Clondalkin. On one occasion he got the train from Amiens St (having cycled there from Ballsbridge!), to Goraghwood, and thence to Warrenpoint. Then he cycled through Rostrevor, Annalong and Kilkeel to Newcastle. Then he threw the bike in the guards van and footplated an 0.6.0 to Belfast!
