Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Some local railway history for my area. Sadly all gone now. Wouldn't it be nice if Newry still had all its 5 local railway stations and goods yards. Quote
Riversuir226 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Know the feeling Waterford had 6 lines radiating from it, 2 terminal stations gone, 4 lines closed, not to mention the fact that up till the 60's every town in the county had a station. I think Cork was the worst hit with 5 terminals gone and 4 lines from the city closed, not to mention the Fermoy, Youghal, Mitchelstown,Newmarket, coachford, donoughmore, schull,Baltimore, clonakilty, courtmacsherry and kinsale branches. Plus the direct line to limerick. I think there was eighty stations in total closed in Co. Cork. Quote
Glenderg Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Great find Anto. Sadly it's all gone - warrenpoint trackbed now a motorway, newcastle station a lidl, and newry looks completely different. Imagine the fun and games today with all those crossing points! Like a grown up shunting puzzle. R. Quote
