Belfast Grand Central Station Updates

Timeline

Below we set out a proposed timeline of key activity and milestones for the project.

Please note, these are indicative and subject to change. Further details will be available closer to the relevant phase of works commencing and we will work closely to inform all stakeholders as part of this process.

21st March 2024 – 25th March – Phoenix Gas works to install connections to the new Belfast Grand Central Station. Lane closure from Glengall Street to Grosvenor Road on Durham Street.

23rd March - 24th March – NI Water works to install connections to the new Belfast Grand Central Station. Lane closures heading east and west on Grosvenor Road.

30th March - 2nd April 2024 – Railway line closure between Lanyon Place to Great Victoria Street to Portadown to facilitate engineering works by Babcock.

3rd April - 7th April 2024 – Railway line closure between Lanyon Place and to Great Victoria Street to Lisburn to facilitate engineering works by Babcock

May - September 2024 – Public realm improvements on Grosvenor Road. These works will be transient and will require a footpath/lane closure at various points.

May - June 2024 – Public realm improvements on section of Glengall Street. (End closest to Great Victoria St and side of Europa Hotel). This may require lane/footpath closure.

May - July 2024 – Summer railway line closure (part 1). Dates TBC.

Great Victoria Street station to close – rail services continue to operate between Lanyon Place and Lisburn serving all halts along the corridor.

May - August 2024 – Great Victoria St Crossing / footpath alignment. This will require a lane/footpath closure.

May - September 2024 – Public realm improvements on Sandy Row (from Hope Street Junction to former Gilpins site)

July - September 2024 – Summer railway line closure (part 2). Dates TBC.

Q4 2024 – Operational Station Opening. Rail services will move into the new station and 16 bus stands will be operational.
