GNRi1959 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 (edited) Will be scratch building a GNRi turntable well and turntable based on Omagh, as seen below. Anyone got any ideas on the length of the bridge or diameter of the well on these structures? Edited March 12, 2018 by GNRi1959 Quote
0 leslie10646 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Ah, Tony, the things I do for you! Omagh's turntable was 60ft in 1930 according to the Appendix to the Working Timetable. Same as Portadown, incidentally - I cheated and used a Fleischmann motorised job - I must measure it! If you need other info on Omagh, I'll happily look it up for you. Regards Leslie Quote
0 GNRi1959 Posted March 12, 2018 Author Posted March 12, 2018 Thanks Leslie, always keen to get anything relating to Omagh. I'm scratch building the turntable from some of the strangest of items - all will be revealed in time. Quote
0 Glenderg Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Were turntables not "IKEA" kits of their time - 60'. 70' and so on? Quote

The GNR had them from 42ft (Banbridge was 42ft 3in!!!) to 60ft (Pordy-down, Omagh and Derry). Amazingly, the Amiens Street one was just 50ft in 1930 - memory is that it was made larger later, probably when the compounds came? Quote
