  1. A quick message to all and an update at last. Transfer lead from Nikon camera stopped working so ordered a new one and purchased the wrong one from Amazon so a bit of digging in the manual revealed the correct one and it arrived yesterday so here come the piccies hopefully, here's wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Station Complete Lock and pub in place Lock keepers cottage
  2. Oh yeah nearly forgot , real smoke from chimneys can be done with incense cones (got mine from Amazon), they even come with their own protective metal stand and are 100% safe, they also make the model room smell nice, mine were called "Mermaids Tears" , How the **** does anyone know what they smell like ?
  3. Flash of inspiration yesterday , she that shall be obeyed decided we were having a new Christmas tree this year so the old one had to be disposed of. I noticed the end of the Green branches were coated with tiny white bits of polystyrene , I cut a few off and painted the fake snow bits various shades of Red Blue Yellow etc with acrylic paint pens and they make excellent flowers to place in self adhesive tufts of grass and are very convincing. Now have a bag full of the tree tips. Really happy with the results.
  4. Nice neat job there Derek
  5. Just ordered this little beauty from Hattons in Liverpool , € 44 , contacted them and they assure me it is a perfect runner and has no damage or anything missing , Class T3 0-6-0 6113 of the KPEV - Pre-owned - Very good original box , just loved the look !!! And 4 of these Bolsters € 6.50 each
  6. Thanks David , they are starting at baseboard level , and it is a terraced block , I was thinking about having steps leading up to the doors from the road but I see your point about laying the ground levels in front first. I did something very similar fer me Da ( Who was a GWR fanatic ) about 30 odd years ago but I'll be ****** if I can remember how I did it Thanks again for the advice.
  7. Here we go , finally settled on a name , Metcalfe buildings delivered yesterday so are now ongoing , raised track bed nearly done , and backscenes being fitted tomorrow. Really enjoying N Gauge ..................... By the way , has anyone got any advice on running buildings uphill ?? As in getting the angles right etc etc ??
  8. Name now sorted, It's gonna be called "KILGARVAN WHARF" , Kilgarvan is a pretty village in Co. Kerry but is also the name of the area we live in here in Cobh. Now transferring all further posts to a new thread called "KILGARVAN WHARF" See ye all there for all posts on the new layout. Sláinte , Murph
  9. WOW , now this one is impressive and has given me some great ideas , forgive the annoying ads
  10. HA HA , no I'm not thank god ,, we've a local lad fer all that , could do with a plasterer too , the hole in the wall at the back was to accommodate a GWR autocoach overhang on the tight bend of the old layout , luckily it wont be seen when the backscenes go on this one , they're actually arriving today , the press shelf the layout sits on slides in and out on runners if I remove the loose side section so I've access to the back right now , so all the work there will be done first.
  11. Thanks Galteemore , how ye doin ??
  12. Canal Corner Black Bull pub & Lock Keepers Cottage The revamped man shed Just about to add weeds round platform base , flower pots , a few advertising signs , Hattons order arriving Monday with GWR spear fencing an a few more bits including a GWR restaurant coach still in a sealed box never used for €9 , Marks Models Dublin order on Tuesday with more Metcalfe kits , getting used to smaller size now so a test scratch build looks likely. Sláinte Murph ,
  13. Layout now retired , see my N gauge project post. Whole lot up for sale if anyone is interested. 5 locos, all buildings, track, all rolling stock and scenery if anyone is interested.
  14. Right, big change, Murphy's Wharf has been retired, luckily I built it in sections and added them bit by bit so no damage done on removal from the man shed and the funeral took place in the spare room wardrobe yesterday. The N gauge project (still nameless) is being moved in today. Metcalfe kits coming on grand, really pleased with the ease of construction and superb detail, 4 X 2 baseboard increased to 4 X 3 and will now have a side extension making it L shaped, idea is to run a main line oval with two added loops of increasing radius bends on left hand side for train storage and will run into a a branch line terminus onto the other board , this means one train can disappear into the tunnel , flick the points and a different train will emerge, raised track beds on main board started yesterday. Wish me luck on move to it's new home and promise photo's will follow, Sláinte Murph
  15. Apparently there's a town in Co. Galway called "Muckanaghederdauhaulia", don't think I'll call the layout that, not enough space on station nameboard Or this one !!!!!
  16. Noel, I'm loving the baseboards
  17. OK its sorted, after some digging and head scratching I found that 4 foot by 2 foot IS fine so let the fun begin, Metcalfe Settle & Carlisle station building complete and canal lock with different levels done too. Water is 3mm Perspex painted with a dirty mix of light green and burnt umber brown and the reflection when turned over when its all dry (5 coats) is amazing, must say the Metcalfe kits are superb and very easy if you take your time, lovely detail and very sturdy. Pleased so far , more stuff arriving today (A4 card for track bed) and tomorrow (Marks Models in Dublin more Metcalfe kits) and Amazon (track, steel ruler, and magnifying adjustable glasses) Will upload some pics later when tablet has charged. Still yet to find it a name !! Murph
  18. OOPS , B&Q visit got a 4' X 2' chipboard , very pleased until I checked it with track plan on anyrail track planner tingy and found out it didn't f*****g fit !! Now found a local lad that has 8' X 4' sheets of OSB board for €19 and will deliver it free of charge as his shop is only 150 metres from our front door , and I know his dad who is another local musician , excess will do for raised track beds , looks like the jigsaw is coming out to play. Made Faller bridge , first Faller kit I've done and very impressed with detail and ease of assembly. Fingers crossed Murph
