  1. Something else to consider is that the DART will have a fairly limited appeal due to its restricted operation over one line. I can't recall seeing too many Irish layouts with overhead wires and/or based on the geographical location or timeframe that the DARTs operate in. I do accept that overhead stock and overhead wires is a bit of a 'chicken and the egg' situation though. Railcars are characterised by their windows as glazing is such a prominent feature. Maybe look instead at freight stock? Since MIR ceased manufacturing there has been a shortage of Irish freight wagons on offer. There are people who are now moving to fill those gaps, but there might be wagons they do not offer which you can have a go at. Whatever you decide to do, best of luck.
  2. silly question; cleaned the loco wheels?
  3. I think Rich hits the nail on the head here. Well done for having a go, but I can't see anyone will pay 400 euro for something that has printed detail and no glazing, especially in these times. If I was forking out 400 quid for something it would be either brass or O gauge. I hope it goes well for you, but maybe look at alternative methods of construction, such as those employed by the 2600 railcars to see if you can do something better for less.
  4. BLMA stuff is lovely, recommended. Mind you scratch building will get you something unique. You can use corn flake boxes, like someone on here did for a much coveted bridge that has since been felled by a sledgehammer!
  5. I'm pretty sure Bachmann are the biggest selling brand of model railroads in the USA. The quality might be dodgy but they sell loads of trainsets, do the Thomas the Tank Engine series and sell cheap locomotives across a variety of scales.
  6. I heard a rumour on my travels that Grahams are doing a Bachmann 5 car Voyager set for €109.99. That's a bargain.
  7. John Major at it again.
  8. I'll let you know when my one arrives Rich, but I'm glad to report no opening doors at least! I don't think the brake discs have been replicated though, but will confirm when I get my hands on it. I'll stick a few pics up too
  9. Lovely work popeye. Rich, give me a should when your etches are ready, will be taking a couple off you.
  10. I'm not surprised given the awful tat some of the Olympics merchandise was. Stupidly overpriced too. Hornby really need to get back to what they're good at too. After a number of years releasing some brilliant models they took their eye off the ball with this diversification and released some poorly received models like the 4-Vep. I am looking forward to seeing what their new 67 turns out like when my EWS one arrives.
  11. I'm sure one of the weathering gurus on here will replicate that for you!
  12. Maybe download the app? I use the apple version on my iphone and can access all areas. I'm sure there must be an android one too.
  13. Looks that way, would say it's similar to standard Kader made products.
  14. waggonfabrik I think? Super model, would love to get my hands on one, but Irish/British/American is enough as it is before going European too! I'm also debating which Westerns I would like to pick up. Already have a Heljan D1015 in Golden Oche, fancy a Maroon Small Yellow panel and a dirty banger blue one at least.
  15. I'll try to take a video of all the levels next time I'm down. Bare in mind though that to watch trains on the top level a step ladder is required!
  16. It's a pity they're out of service, they were attractive units externally. Pity that the seats made you feel like you're sitting on the toilet.
  17. Very nice, I believe Intermountain are doing regular SD40-2s in the near future. Will be interesting to see how they turn out as a definitive SD40-2 is needed. I have two over their GEVOs and they're nice locos.
  18. Only thing I'm not sure about is the real springs on the bogies, cosmetic only but they look a bit naff to be honest. I have a couple of the 22s and they're not a bad model, would be nicer with some tweaks and still not sure about the mechanism, she overheated on Brendan's layout, although that might have been the hornby sapphire decoder that was in it, which I'm not a fan of. Still, the wizzo looks fab, and they're doing a 73 too, can't wait for that either.
  19. Been watching this too Rich, the limited edition for Steam looks superb. I'm holding out for Maroon Small Yellow panel and BR Blue should funds allow.
  20. Yep it's a veranda Gas Turbine with tender that I fitted sound to.
  21. Some pics of my centennial in action, we took some videos but my laptop is out of action at the mo so I'll have to wait a few days before I upload them. Brendan took some himself too so he might get his videos uploaded first.
  22. Athearn Union Pacific superpower line up

    SSM Sulzer 101

A class 20 has an English electric engine Eamon so would sound quite different. Go for a 24 or 25, they had sulzer engines in them.
  24. What make are the Conrail covered hoppers? Please don't 'Irishise' them!
