  2. I'd be well chuffed with that too kid :-bd, it also seems to be a good color match with the Lima Galway coaches. Best feeling in the world watching the stock busy at work. My own 220 has now become the pride of my 201 fleet. Color wise it just looks spot on and just as I remember them after a few years in service.

    Have you carried out any extra detailing on yours yet Rich? Would be interested to see what you did and parts you used to see what I can do to my ones.

  3. Something else worth doing is try a dry run of fitting parts together without glue to make sure they fit together nicely and do not need modification without glue being in the equation. It only gets messy otherwise!

     

    Also, it will help you to work out if some parts need painting before gluing together. And if you make a mess of it the first time, don't be disheartened. I bet everyone on here has made a mess when starting out making kits. You can learn a whole lot from making a mistake. The Dapol kits are perfect to begin with and are enjoyable to make up. Enjoy it!

  5. Picked up the book yesterday, cracking piece of work! Is there a similar book about the Dublin area during a similar time period? When it comes to Irish railway books I've lived a very sheltered life...

  6. It was announced earlier this week that the long running Atlas train forums are to close on May 1st. It has been a great resource for myself as I got interested in yank stuff down through the years despite the amount of hot air that comes out of the place every once in a while and something I'll miss a lot when it's gone.

     

    One particular tradition that'll I'll miss the the Sunday Photo Fun tread which was an institution in itself. Each week members would put up a photo of anything they wanted such as a model they were working on, or completed, or a picture or two from their layout.

     

    The last thread in this tradition is well under way. Well worth a look for inspiration and ideas, even if you aren't into the yank stuff. Some amazing modelling to be seen from all over the world.

  7. Can anyone tell me if there is a preserved KD. If there is where could I go to see it.

    KD 353 is now undergoing restoration at the Irish National Transport Museum in Howth, Co. Dublin, where KD59 also resides as a spares vehicle.

    KD 70 was housed at the now defunct Glasgow Bus Museum but is since understood to have been scrapped.

    KD 221 is so far the only member of its class to be fully restored.

    KD 184 is in derelict condition at Kells Transport Museum in Cork.

    KDs 156, 199, 236 and 241 are in private ownership

     

    Would love another spin on one myself. Miss them, KCs, Ds and RHs.

  8. It is if you live outside Dublin, it could be two trains. It would get more visitors if it was in the city centre between additional passing trade and tourists who don't fancy a day trip out of the city centre just to see a model railway. If it were in the city centre they could combine it with other sightseeing.

  10. The HO was produced in 1977 in conjunction with the British stuff by LIMA themselves as their first foray into the Irish/UK markets

    It was because of the failure of the HO that LIMA then looked for an Irish involvement so that they would have more feedback etc

    I will get to the LIMA/Lexie stuff later in the lesson!

     

    I'll be bringing an apple instead of stale buns with me the next time so.
