  1. Hi,

So as the show approaches a few of the long term stock projects start making their way to the bench to be finshed off. One such model is 37 417, which has been sat on the shelf for more years than it should have.  Seen here out side the shed on Thorne yard awaiting the fitters to install the sound and speaker.

  2. Has it been almost a year since I posted in here. Now the big trainset has had its outing its time to make a start on getting Thorne Yard ready for the trip to GETs in October. It will be uncarted over the summmer and given a check over and some of those little 5 min jobs which need doing, like signs replacning. wiring up the yard lights and a few others that I cant remember off the top of my head.

So, whilst the work gets under way here is another photo for you,

  3. Now The big train set has had its only show apperance for this year, its time to do a bit more on the stock for Wainthrop to bolster the rakes that I can run.

The second of the twin bolster is now done and they are both almost ready fo the spray booth

Just need to decide whether to have a short load on them or have a long load after seeing a nice photo in one of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Miscellany books. The longer load would, I think, provide some diffent to run at shows and making operating the layout more challenging.

The Purple Monster arrived today, yaaaayyyyyy!

Amazing detail. It looks like an O Gauge loco, the detail is so fine.

Bag of tiny coloured bits, no idea what they are, and a bag of nameplates. One tiny thing loose in the box, only a few mm long, so will figure that out another day.

Loads of headcodes, plus a guide on headcodes, and some booklets.

Outstanding looking loco. I'm too burned out to be trying any running, but this is just gorgeous.

P.S.: I thought that there was another newer Deltic thread but nothing shows up when I search for threads with "Deltic" in the title, so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

That little L shaped part goes on the fuel tank. If you turn it over you will see how it fits from the one at the other end. A very small amount of glue on the little pip and a pair of tweezers to hold it whilst you fit it in the hole.

Just been reading through this entire thread - truly amazing and inspirational stuff!!!  Love those class 37s!

Thank you. It's a team effort on the layout and on the 37s. Having a quick look, there is one from everyone of the team in the varoius photos. Just waiting for those very nice Accura blokes to bring out some more Blue 80s ones, Large logo Scottish ones for me personally and then the next layout project can begin, BUT as they say thats another story.

  7. Hi all,

So a few days away from the bench since the last post but a couple of hours on sunday night has got me to this point. Nearly time for a dip in the ultrasonic bath and then some primer before checking.

  8. Hello all,

At any one time, as a group we have lots of projects on the go and I'm no diffrent with 20 currently on the go (not all for Charwelton into the 80s I hasten to add!).

Here is one that I'm on with and that creating one of 2 or possibly 3 breakdown trains that I plan to use across a couple of layouts and a future ones.

The basis for this one is one from Springs Branch Depot in Wigan which as at the top end of the GCR network so it may have travelled down this far.

Whilst the crane is RTR the accompanying coaches and open wagons will have to be scratchbuilt using a mixture of kit chassis and custom etched sides as one of the coaches had a small verander at one end.

This is going to be done along side another project that I'm hoping to be ready for Railex at the end of May. If it makes it I will pop some photos up of it in my workbench thread.

  9. Hi all,

So its been a while since I posted anything in here and after a weekend exhibting at the Perston Model railway exhibtion with Wainthrop.

I had lost the enthusiasm for it over the past few months for various reasons. After getting the enthuisiam for it after the show again mostly due to the public showing lots of intrest in it, I have set my self a goal to get any outstanding kits and bits built or finshed off and to build some items that you can't get as kits or RTR.Learning some new skills as I go, but more on that in another post.

So first up is a second 6 wheel Bridcage 3rd brake which will eventually end up as a rake of 3. In real life they ran as a 5 coach set. Unfortunatly 5 is too long for my platform. Though knowing me, I may end up doing the 5 and then when they run on the layout it can be different numbers in the operating sequence.

As with most kist, once you have built one already you get to know the best way to build them so first up is to add the beeding, vents and the window drops on the doors.

  10. Hello all,

Erm where did last year go......answers on a post card please. Well a lots happened since the last post. The next outing of the trainset was Wigan which the guys enjoyed with out me due to external factors preventing me from attending.

So our next show is only 132 days aways and I thought it was about time that I started updating you all with whats been happening.....

So to kick things off here is a very nice Deltic (no prizes for who made the model 😉) on a sunday afternoon diversion along the Great Central

  11. I've used IPA to great effect. I use a mix of 90% IPA and 10% water which has removed most piant from factory applyed to resprays using all sorts of paint.

i usualy leave the item soaking for at least 4 hours and most stuff comes off with a scrub of an old toothbrush. If paint still lingers than just put it back in and leave for another hour or two.
