  1. As things are still silly busy with non model railway stuff, I've only been able to spend a very small amount of time at the bench so not much has been done. Managed to purchase some of the Heljan cargowaggons when they came up for sale and whilst removing the NEM couplings, I noticed the had a bit of a squeak when running, so all the bogies have come off whilst i had them in bits and I'm looking at adding top heat bearings to hopefully eliminate the squeak. Will do a test bogie first and then the rest if it works.
  2. Not much has been happening on the bench with a mixture of the heat and other summer events/activities I'm involved in recently. I did manage to make a start on a L&YR single plank open wagon though. Basic body was soon put together. Then started to add the W irons and brakes Using some old wagon axles to make sure everything was square.
  3. Not much happening at the bench as its a busy time of year for non hobby related events, I have been playing with the 3d printer though and have printed this. No the greatest photo and taken just after coming off the printer. For those wondering what it is, its a Flatrol SB
  4. Thank you for the kind words. Was a nice little kit to build. I like most, will probably have a box or a folder with half used transfer sheets in it and I'm always looking out for other items I can use them up on. I have to be honest, I would have got another one anyway, just happens to be a nice coincidence that you get enough on the transfer sheet to do, I think 2 models of each era, unlike the Parkside kits which give you around 1 and a half. Well the ones I have done do.
  5. Here is the finished wagon on Thorne Yard. I've ended up getting a second one as had some transfers left over and seamed a shame to let them sit in the transfer box.
  6. Added the transfers to the ZDW Conflat D wagon. Took a while to bed the transfers down, even with the gloss coat.
  7. When using the airbrush I always try to combine projects to make the use of the paint in the cup, so whilst the 950 was getting the yellow ends, I popped this LMS 50ft passenger brake van in to the spray booth as well. Still has a bit more work to be done before its finished.
  8. Now with added yellow
  9. Whilst ive been waiting for paint and glue to dry i have been making progress on the 950 unit. using the bachmann 150 model with the PH Designs etched part set. Its taken a lot of work to get to the stage that it is here as some of the etches are either slightly too samll or in some cases too big. A lots of filing, sanding and filling to hit this point in the photos.
  10. I've also been building one of these. This is the cambrin SR Dance Hall brake van that had the additional end parts added to make it into the ballast van version. I'm currenlty looking for some different buffers for it as the plastic kit ones look a bit over nurished on the buffer heads.
  11. Here is the finshed article with a bit of weathering added. I've also added some instantor couplings and some pipes from a hornby accessory pack, when they sold them separately. I've added some instantor couplings and some pipes from a hornby accessory pack, when they sold them separately
  12. I realy do need to remember to take more photos as I'm building kits as I always seam to miss stages. Here is the Engine carrier after the black has been added and the transfers are being added. Hope I'm not boring you all with all this flicking between things.
  13. After a bit of masking up, And once it had had a coat of Olive Green paint.
  14. There were few of them so expect they got all over. I was enager to get the ZRA built and done that I didn't take any photos of it during construction. Will have to remedy that when I do the next one. So here it is in the spary booth after a coat of primer along with the L&YR van.
  15. Made start on this recently First thing was to remove the NEM coupling box at each end.
  16. IMG_9932.MOV We had a good time at Preston. Had one of my new rakes running. still a couple of bits to add but it looked good on the layout, if i dont say so my self.
  17. After GETS we had a bit of time off as we exhibitied the other trainset till June and then we had a trip north to Paisley for the Scottish Festival of Railway modeling and w may have had a bit of fun.....
  18. After a bit of time applying glue tothe tissue, I got it to this point and let it dry for a few days.
  19. Has it really been that long since i posted up about the big trainset. Well, we survived GETs in 2024 and had a bit of intrest in the layout... We also gave a few new bits of stock a run out as well.
  20. The van has progressed and now has the roof and has the start of the planksing on the opening section. For the canvas cover, I decided to use some of the tissue paper that came in another kit wrapped round the etches, which to mee looks about right and allows it to be moulded to the roof section.
  21. Hello all, So we are taking the layout out to the Macclesfield exhibtion in April and with it only being 82 days before we load the van up, I thought I would pop a photo up from our last trip out to Railex last May before i startred the prep work on the layout for April. Have few things to sort out, from getting the tall depot lights to work and fettling a couple of the points that were begining to stick a little, along with some more stock. One new item that made it to Railex was the ZCV 'Crab' ballast wagon. Which spent most of the weekend at the show in that position.
  22. Work on the coach has slowed a little as the next stage is to create the roof section of the birdcage and it needs the domstic authoristes to be out of the hosue so I can use the cooked to anneal the section to make it easier to bend. So whist that is waiting to happen, i made a start on a Dia &£ L&YR covered goods van. Its one of the David Geen kits nd is mostly white metal with the odd bit of plasticard throw in. As per Geen kits, the body fell together and a quickly got to this point Then added the W iorns and the cross shafts for the brake gear, along with the handles on the doors.
  23. Yes, it looks like a lot of ealry coaching stock was very similar and for us modellers, with a bit of work, things can be altered to suit other railways, even if it not quite right.
