  1. Had good show at Macclesfield over the weekend. Gave a new toy a run out and it did rather well. Apart from beaching its self on the barrow crossing btu a quick slice with the scaple sorted that out. Didnt get chance to take many photos, so here are a couple.
  2. So its been a while..... As im taking the train set to Macclesfield Model Railway exhibtion I've been sorting the stock and starting to get the varous bits together that are needed. The stock trays had been bothering me for a while as whilst tryingt o kepe everything secure it was leading to a little bit of damage now and again. So a rethink was needed so now the foam used for seperating the stock is at the bottom with slots cut for the couplings, I use sprat and Winkle, to keep everything in place.
  3. A view from the end of the yard.
  4. A quick video of a one of the services coming out of Catesby tunnel. GPLR1262.MP4
  5. So its been a while since the last post, not sure where the time has gone. As we have a couple of shows this year we thought it was time to get the trainset out and set it up and work though some of those jobs that are meant to be 5 or 10 minutes ones but seam to take a lot longer. So to start we had a bit of a photo session for new stock. Just couldn't resist having them both on the layout.
  6. So one thing I have been meaning to do for a while is to add a section of removable track on the DCC demo display stand as with the colletion growing and having more smaller locos they need somehere to be displayed. So a a bit of work with some files, soldering iron and drills it was installed. Not much to see granted but will make the stand look more like a light dispaly than ever.
  7. Do a bit more to the van. Pressing the rivets out using a GW rivet press. Keeps everything even and straight.
  8. Did a bit more on the chassis. I had hoped to get the chassis fully done in the time i had at the bench that day but due to the slots and tabs not fitting together and after a bit of file work, I finally got the solebars to sit flush and the floor straight.
  9. A couple of new kits arrived and as I have a show in April with Wainthrop Bridge I thought I would make a start on them as the one item I'm missing is a bogie van. With most rolling stock I always start with the wheels first as then I can make sure that all the cleanaces are good. After a bit of work with the bending tool and the soldering iron the 3d printed side frames where added. They will need a bit of work as they are bowed
  10. Hi all, So the next wagon up is a L&YR single bolster Dia32a for a David Geen kit. This will be run as a single empty wagon for trips to the yard on Wainthrop Bridge. I will be updating the brake gear as I find the white metal stuff is to thick for the rodding and blocks, so I will be fitting some etched parts along with some brass bar and some 3d printed brake blocks. Well thats the plan.
  11. Also stops the over ordering/lack of wire. I go from having so much .45 wire in stock to having none at all and this will mean I can keep an eye on it.
  12. Hi all, Next up has been this wire and rod holder. Up till now Ive been using a plastic box to keep the various packets of wire and rod in and its always been a bit of a mission to locate the wire that I need as its always the last packet you come across. So whilst at the Manchester show I got one of these to keep everything more organised and make it easier to know when stocks are running low to give chance to get more supplies.
  13. So its day 10 now and here are a few photos of the items that I've been on with. So first up on Day 4 is a white meatl kit for a L&YR sliding roof van. Can't remember off the top of my head the Dia number but I think its a 10 ton one. May be wrong on that one. Day five, I made a start on installing the instantor couplings on some COVHOPS and gain hoppers.
  14. Hi all, So Day 3 was the front of the warehouse added and the steps made up.
  15. Thanks. I'm the same, once I'm at the bench and getting on with stuff its not a problem. Its just the getting to the bench that can be a struggle with being at it for the day job so setting the challange forces me to do something. I'm hoping it will mean a few kits get sorted out this year.
  16. Day 2 of the crazy idea. Put most of the main frame together for the warehouse and its seen here waiting for the glue to dry.
  17. Hi all, So its been a while again......need a few more housrs in the day and days in the.....prehaps not. So as its 2024 and after seeing it on Facebook (yes the evils of FB) I have decided to set my self a challange of doing some modeliing every day for the year. It ha to be at least 30 mins to count and it can be of anything model related. For here it will be most railway stuff that I post but the odd other itme may slip in from time to time. The reason you ask, well basically I've got loads of kits that are either still in the boxes or have been started and need finishing off. This I hope will reduce the amount of boxes that I have around the house and also enable me to get more stock done for the various layouts that I own. Some of the stock for the L&YR layout has been sat in the box for a good few years. Any way enough with the waffling and on with the challange, there has been a coupe of days done already so I will catch you up as quickly as I can. Day 1 0f 366 First up is a new kit, yes there will be a few of them as well, that I picked up at the Manchester exhibtion in 2023. The JS Models warehouse kit. This is going to go on a future project that i have in mind and thought it would be a good place to start. Made a start on cutting out the windows and and side parts ready for gluing . And yes the eagle eyed amougst you will have notice.......... I decided to do this on a leap year!!
  18. Happy new year to you all, So not much has happened since the last update back in October. Managed to make The Great Electric Train Show, didn't make it to Falkirk for various reasons. Whilst we had the layout up at GETS, I got chance to give 37027 a run out. Nice and smooth and never missed a beat. Just needs a bit of weathering now.
  19. Thanks for the kind comments. Looking at the photo reminds me that I need to get some more point levers to replace the ones that have been knocked off whilst track cleaning.
  20. Not sue where the time has gone over the past few months. With the GETs show only a couple weeks away, I thought it was about time I posted up another pic of 08419 in the yard making up the next departmental rake.
  21. The decoder will work and the loco will run but you wont get all the lights working as the function mapping is different.
  22. Something different and not something you normal a view you get to see when the layout is at a show, unless track cleaning is going on and the signal box has been lifted off.
  23. So its been a while since I posted, not sure where the time has gone. so to start back, here is the cab of the next Tamper I'm on with. I'm doing 2 versions the 80 and the 100. The white glue is the glue and glaze to produce some sort of lens for the lights. On the next one im going to try a different method of fitting the lights and will try using some clear resin, which if it works will make another project easier to do.
  24. Hi, So as the show approaches a few of the long term stock projects start making their way to the bench to be finshed off. One such model is 37 417, which has been sat on the shelf for more years than it should have. Seen here out side the shed on Thorne yard awaiting the fitters to install the sound and speaker.
