  1. Last DFDS liner ran on Tuesday 10th July, but ttc0169 might be able to confirm this date, btw never say never, it may return in the future if business conditions change.

    Regards

    h.gricer

Correct h gricer-your welcome to the site, great to have you here,

072 worked the last Ballina-Waterford DFDS liner on Friday 06/17/12,

079 worked the last Waterford-Ballina DFDS liner on Tuesday 10/07/12-the liner wagons are now being used for the extra IWT liner on Wednesday and Thursday.

  2. Beautiful! Is that second shot modelled on around Inchicore?

Yes Vincent it is loosely based around Inchicore-Heuston with the four track bi-directional lines which give me lots of operating options,

Here are a few photos of Monday evenings locos which are being serviced at the depot for evening passenger and freight services,

146 gets checked over at the running shed before being allocated to a fertliser train.

A view from the cab of 156 of various locos in the yard.

201 off the 19:00 Mk3 set arrives at the shed and gets checked out-while 210 awaits a driver to work it back to the station for passenger duties,

Locos 155+156 will work the oil train transfer from the oil road siding over to the railcar depot and later to the carriage valeting plant after the passenger services have finished.

  3. more pics Noel

(This one is for 201bhoy)-220 works a fully loaded IWT liner seen here passing the ammonia and bulk cement.

After a loco change which seen 220 allocated to the Mk2 set,8208 was put on to the IWT-a rare loco on a freight train,

Shortly after taking over the liner the CTC signalman contacted the driver to say that the hot box detector had been activated and to stop and examine his train,

Here we see Driver Anthony about to examine his train having asked Eamonn the CTC signalman for signal protection-209 on the Mk4 set being held at the station until the all clear is given.

  4. How much rolling stock actually carries a name on the IE network

Anthony-no rolling stock nowadays carry any names,

The last rolling stock in the IE era to carry a name were the Mk3a coaches and they were named "Cu na Mara",

They worked on the Heuston-Galway route from 1994 to 2006 until they transferred over to the Westport route for approximately one year until withdrawal in 2007.

  5. Just wondering, were the windows taken from withdrawn 141/181 locos

hence the IE window on 112?.amazing detail differences in that respect.

Eamonn-that's very possible that 112 got the cab side windows off a 141 class loco,

I remember 112 working the Ballina branch Cravens set in 2004-and i see from an IRRS journal that loco 158 was cut up at Inchicore in March 2003-so its possible that 112 has 158's cab side windows.

Most withdrawals of 141/181's seem to have taken place from 2006 onwards.

  6. Was it this one?

It's made from the Bachmann Amtrak/Union Pacific inspection car.

That's my model of EM50 no' 700 which is based on IE's track recording car,721 is an inspection car used by per-way inspectors to check conditions of level crossings, fencing, cuttings and embankments along all lines,

721 is the only one of its type and was built in 1993 by Hugh Philips-the only other inspections cars are no's 722 and 723 which are a different type and were built in 1994 by Matisa-

    I haven't see 722 or 723 for some time.

  7. Many thanks Boskonay and Eamonn-I'm working on the video end of things,

In the meantime I bought a few of these excellent Hornby KFA container wagons during the week, the under frame detail is top class and the added bonus of sprung buffers is a nice touch,

Now even though they are a 60ft wagons-(ideal for conversion to a timber train)-I decided to use them for my IWT liner as the choice of containers/tanks that come with the wagons are the same as what the real IWT liner carries, and it would be a shame to start cutting and shortening such a fine wagon,

The metal frame is heavy and also helps the wagons when running around the layout without containers,

So,after repainting the wagons with red oxide paint and applying some 30XXX bogie wagon numbers-it was time for 220 to haul them empty on a trial run around Tara Jctn-all went well,

Hera are a few photos of the wagons and the trial run.......

  8.

I sure will.it will be next week as I will be down to either Ballybeg

or the Deeps layout so I look forward to giving her proper run

    with stock.

Look forward to that Eamonn-well done with it.

  9. Not to mention the double Bo-Bos on the BBC and ammonia trains, the orange 201 with the MkIIIs and the 2600-class railcar also featuring in the pictures. I've said it before and I'll say it again Noel - an absolutely stunning layout! I suppose that the DFDS liner will live on at Tara Jctn.

Many thanks Josefstadt,it took me a while to figure out the consisting operation for the 2x 141s-but I got there-and I'm happy with that operation,

Yes the DFDS liner is in the pipeline-with some weedspray wagons to add to the weedspray coach that's lying in a siding,

    Thanks again lads.

  10. Early Saturday morning on Tara Jctn sees recently repainted NIR loco 209 work the 10:00 down Mk4 service passing sister loco 8208 on an up Mk2 service with an ICR on the local service, while 229 ticks over on shed after being replaced earlier by 209.

  11. Great idea Anthony,

Let me get the train rolling

    071 class:

072 worked the 11:05 Ballina-Northwall IWT liner this morning,

081 worked the Waterford-Westport empty timber train arriving in Westport at 17:40 this evening,

    201 class:

The working of the year so far for me anyway when

8208 worked the 08:15 Ballina-Northwall IWT liner 17/18 LX wagons were loaded,

It had replaced 088 which had failed near Sallins yesterday morning, the liner eventually arriving into Ballina freight yard at 16:40-photos over the next few days,

222 worked the Northwall-Ballina IWT CPW liner today, arriving in Ballina freight yard at 14:35.

  12. Noel, the 071 class sound chip is the best from what I have heard between it and the

201 and 141.I had a loan of one of Gerry Byrnes 071s a while back and she

Is a beaut.must get a chip when funds get better.

Cheers and thanks Eamonn-looking forward to the October bank holiday weekend.

  13. Connolly shed closed on 31 December 2010. The area in front of the shed is only used to stable locomotives, all servicing work is undertaken in Inchicore Works now. The version of the redevelopment story I heard was that the shed was to be completely refurbished to accommodate a relocated and upgraded CTC centre. The original CTC building is now considered too small given the massive expansion of the system and it was that building that would have been demolished as part of the proposed redevelopment plan.

    Correct.
