First 071 on ebay for less than the RRP.
Im sure its a member on here selling it along with the 146. Hope he gets a good bit more than the starting price.

Swmbo and I got caught up in this twice once we were to be bussed to the Shannon but ended up flying to Shannon on a 146 and then changing planes in Shannon to go off on our sun holiday:cool:.
The second time it happened we were left waiting in Crete for 48 hrs as the plane was unable to get out of Cork due to bad weather but we didn t mind as we got an extra day and a half sitting on the beach although our bosses were not to pleased(not that we cared!!!). Plus spotted a steam loco in Crete when down by the port in Heraklion admitally a plinted one.
Cork used to be closed quite often due to fog mainly but occasional bad storms caused it to close to, i can remember the air show in 1985 been cancelled due to closure of the airport. I think they should have built it in Kileagh next to the Cork-Youghal line were they were supposed to build it in the first place and not a windswept, fogbound hill were the present one is.

Rails were been taken before the line was cleared, I walked the line from start to finish and I ve only spotted two lengths missing, the signs that were on the line up to recently are disappearing though
-
Welcome Finbarr:tumbsup:, used to walk the line quite a lot back in the early 00's when i lived in the area.
Theres a few books you should get to help you on our way;
The Irish Narrow Gauge, A Pictorial History, Volume One, has a full chapter on the Blackrock line plus has pictures of the locos after they moved onto the other narrow guage lines after the blackrock line closed.
The Cork, Blackrock & Passage Railway by Colm Creedon was available in Cork City library up to a few years ago, i doubt you ll pick up a copy anywhere else,
The Cork, Blackrock & Passage Railway by Stanley C. Jenkins(oakwood press) would be another good one to get.
Best of luck with your adventure

Spotted a hi-rail digger in action on the Waterford - New Ross line yesterday afternoon. It was operating on-rail just behind the Rhu Glenn country club hotel close to the N25. Looked to be clearing branches and over growth from the line. Good on them for making some preservation effort, whoever they are.
Another observation whilst travelling yesterday, there was a bit of activity down new the stored Mk 3 rakes in Waterford West, couple of vans, lots of dudes in Hi-viz down around the carriages... any thoughts?
Tom, they were removing the gen's out of the gennys id say, of course they left the roof off to increase the speed of the rotting.....,

Nice shots Tom,and thanks for sharing.
I would love to see a book on the 5 railways of Waterford
someday, and maybe it might raise awareness of the line
for preservation.Does anyone know of the EM50 trip to
Ballinacourty in 1990,as I would love to know what happened
after this trip as regards this line for retention as tourist line.
Looks like there was not enough money or will to save the full
line as the ITG were asked about the line at that time as well.
Apparently, there was a group who were serious about a preserved line in the area and looked at both the Ballinacourty and Ross lines, i know they had discussions with some of the residents in the stations, i always thought that this led to the Suir Valley line.
There was also plans for a transport museum in New Ross on the Waterford side, if anybody remembers the Dc 7 in Waterford airport this was supposed to be part of it, along with the Drumbrody and some rail artifacts etc, there was talk of an A class doing runs to and from Waterford and up as far as the Red bridge as part of the museum.
Going even further back the Tramore line came close to have been saved by no less than two groups 1 waterford city/county offered cie the amount the line lost and the 2nd was an English lot but cie refused both on the grounds that theyd be operating a bus service between the city and the town.
As for a book on the Waterford lines, id buy it, and i d say it would be popular down here. Don t know of anybody off hand who would write it though?

Excellent video and lovely shots of the old stock.I am looking forward to a visit to Waterford shortly ( old mate to see) just a pity the freight is all gone.

No prob lads:tumbsup:,
I ve heard locally it cost €60K to clear the line and to get to this point, if i hear any more details i ll post it up here. Some of the bridges would need a bit of work but the alignment seems to be in good nick otherwise.
Even though id be sorry to see the line been lifted (some of my now deceased relatives were drivers on the line), at least with either a narrow guage or a walkway its future is someway secure unlike the in limbo status its had since the line closed.
If only my euromillions no's would come up:praying:

I agree with Fran and Richie. A classic example of the difference between resin and brass models is the LMS twins 10000 class (brass models) released some years ago and the Silver Fox versions in resin. D&M have produced amazing brass models of the Rail Cars and Enterprise rolling stock, imagine how they would look in resin. Even the recent LMS twins from Dapol look miles ahead of the resin versions. D&M have proved themselves extremely capable of producing a cracking kit or rtr model of an A, C class to the standard of their other models.
Rich,
I m not disputing the detail that can be achieved by brass, what im saying is resin kits are easier to construct and therefore would lead to better sales to a wider market. I know my own limitations and a brass kit is outside my boundaries, while i look at my mk3 egv with reverence, i wouldn t dream of posting pics of her up on the net.
Rtr is not an option for me(believe me i do drool at the 2600 & dedetrich) due to price and i imagine that would be the same for quite a few members on here.
-
Any reasons for resin?
(cost maybe)
Surely an all brass body would allow for the same level of outstanding detail we're getting used to from the lads (2600, DeDietrichs)
Not everybody can build in brass.
Me and brass have a love/hate relationship following building an mir egv, agreed brass does have better detailed finishes but not everybody can build brass kits especially steam locos. At the moment id have a cbscr tank and a j26 in a flash if they were resin kits

Many thanks for sharing Eamonn its good to see that he used the other closed railways of the south east to show what will happen if the line continues to see little or no use.
-
We should probably get a syndicate together on this board to do the euro millions!
Wouldn t be a bad idea, where do i sign up?
Jaysus (just a thought) we'd all end up with collections like Wrenn if we ever won, anybody selling on ebay would make a killing on any irish model they put up on there.
Were do i sign up
-
, please, please do an A & C class( in resin though as Anto said) next, is there a dead line for orders for the 461 might stop me from rebuilding the kids James loco;)
-
Wrenn keep up the good work with this excellent thread reminds me of the stuff i don t have !!!!

Going retro tonight, Dire Straits while cursing number 3 scratchbuilt tara really tempted to bin it, call Mr Brady for a replacement and hide it in the rake!!!

Was the ban not lifted in the UK because the network was privatised???? And another thing who mentioned the RPSI I thought we were talking about the possiblities of putting Mave back on the rails. The point I'm making is that if the network here is ever privatised and we were to have our version of rail track/network rail, I think the revenue they would make from private rail tours would over come any red tape and someone with a big enough wallet may decide to try and put her back on the rails.
No, the ban was lifted in 1971, 22 years before EU directive 91/440 and the resulting 1993 Railway Act, Foster Yeoman, National power and ARC were doing private freight operations before this but with BR crews. Not to mention the numerous Preserved loco railtours,.
I thought it was more Preserved locos in general my apologies on that.
I would love to see more railtours especially down in these neck in the woods especially if they ever got Maeve out of Cultra i d know i try if the auld euromillions numbers came in.

That was some bargain £128, oh why don t i keep a closer eye on e bay!!!!
Irish Model Buildings for 2014 - Feedback Needed
in Irish Models
Posted
Glounthaune station please, kills two birds with one stone (cabin and main building combined), for something unusual the new Kilkenny station would be nice. Id settle for some ex cbsc buildings though, come too think of it most Church of Ireland churches are of similar design so that could be an idea.
