Here’s a few pics of the real deal for you.. I have three packs on pre-order but haven’t got hands on yet..

All their equipment is LEG1 these days or variants thereof, so 45ft PWHC, 9ft 6 high and 2.5m wide.. The dapol tooling is correct for this..

Looks like a later livery than the one in your photo. I'd hazzard a guess that yours was seventies and this was eighties.

Not sad, no way. I know a man who also does that!

    Who ME ?

The Manchester liners like that were 70s till their demise in the 80s /90s .

Believe it or not that one was bagged in Leeds just a few years back .

Anyway I'm getting the van packed for Warley this weekend Stand B31 i think we are , so if your wanting some boxes or just some general abuse  "thats Free" pop by

  4. HI All

    Bachmann ones were 13.6m X 8'9" high while Dapols are 45ft X 9'6" .

Geest at the time patented the angled front corners which let the container turn within the max on the roads

Do you deduct VAT for posting to Ireland or are you IOSS registered like Hattons?

    Thanks.

I have a whole curver box full of containers and tanks and normally pick up five or six more C-rails at the Raheny/Blackrock show! Although it's only a small box, and not all the containers I have now fit in it!

I only buy the Dapol ones because they are a bit cheaper, and give variety, so I have 7 different CMAs instead of 7 Crails.. It's a quicker option than buying Arrans and Renumbering! But when you put them side by side, Arrans are head and shoulders above anyone elses, so they are normally the top front box on my stacks!

    Big box of containers.jpg

I think only Dapol do a weathered version, so they are the ones with the fuzzy printing I posted pictures of..

Each to their own, but I avoid the weathered versions from Dapol, I think the weathering is more like what you would see on rolling stock(track dirt).. Containers weather differently to rolling stock or trucks, as they are steel exposed to sea water regularly, rust is the main feature of weathering on a container, and also little diamond of black crud where haz labels were/have been removed.. @murphaph recent work is a good example of old/worn containers, but if a driver showed up in Ballina with one of those he'd be told where to go!

    HI All

    ONly their 20ft are a bit cheaper their 2 x 40ft packs £17.50 my 40fts are £7.50 or £8.00 for the new ones .

Dapol and horbey dont do separate locking bars or print the door seals either, they wont do that to save themselves 30p.

    Regards Arran

They are Bachmann 13.6m units from the 2000s, both companies were leasors I think.. I don't think they ever ran in Ireland, the only flow I know of was some being used for Supermarket traffic(Safeway?) in the UK, i'm going to say from Deanside Transit to Warrington Dallam.. But @Arranwould be better informed on the UK than me!

    HI All

They were just leasing companies and who knows what happened to them .

Not sure about the Safeway traffic but never say never, the only Safeway branded were the reefers they used, it was colourful while it lasted .

  9. HI All

Manchester liners went bust in 1985 and their routs taken over by OOCL i think so logically mid to early 90s for the containers becoming extinct .

The MSC brown with the sand MSC have been around a while so last 10 years i think.  ICL have  been about a good while and that container ive done was made in April 2015 .

  10. HI All

The next OO  containers almost ready to go into production.

first is Manchester lines 20ft x 8'6"  so thats early 80s onwards .

Then we have two more 40ft hc bryboxs in Brown MSC as these are becoming more common and ICL which have been getting requested quite a bit.

Looks good but this advise is probably coming too late! It makes life a lot easier if you apply the decals before putting on the locking bars, saves a lot of tweezer work in confined spaces!

Once you have them all finished and Matt varnished Us a Staedtler 1mm pen to do the black door seals'

I think Samskip bought Geest, but also Seawheel(who's boxes have been discussed at length on her, Limerick to Waterford baby food) but Samkip are around a long time, they started with the Iceland/Nordics services and grew from there..

You would know better than me Arran, but are the Tesco units not 8'9" rather than 8'6, I remember reading that they were a lower height so they could be routed via the Settle and Carlisle when the WCML is closed..

The curtain siders were 8ft6" so they could go anywhere like Up to Inverness and Aberdeen , Tesco also have that height in ribbed containers, the 8ft9" were Malcolm 45ft for the Aberdeen run .

I will hunt out some pics when im home

  14. HI All

Samskip were Geest the Banana people who patented the angled pillars at the non door end so you could fit the 45ft container in the maximum turning circle .

The Oxford offering is a TESCO 45ft curtain sided container at 8'6" high but ive never seen one in samskip livery .

You see them more than us Arran.. Dapol did that Argos box as a two pack with a co-op livery also, I bought a pack but again would be U.K. only.. Having said that I have seen Tesco less c02 containers in Dublin port, so models law applies!

You get ASDA as well and Those ones are 8'9" more for the Aberdeen leg .  you can see these in odd places

I would confidently say never, nice livery though.. U.K. to Scotland only

The more unto date livery on the Malcolm's , mostly Grangemouth to Daventry / or Drift , some run to Aberdeen as well.
