  1. Sorted. Got a Virgin MkIII from TMC that donated both a bogie and a box for about 35 euro. The box was a bonus. That coach spent the past 20 years in the tired bubble wrap you see in the background.
  2. A great price. I was the only bidder at 114 when I bought it. Genuinely did not expect it to break 100, and when 102 went on, I thought that was it. Unusual for an ebay auction, most bids were in the early days with a lone late one coming in early on the last day.
  3. Even if it stays at 102, it will have been more than I expected.
  4. Exactly, taking the hit. Not enough time to work on that. If the Mk2 EGVs had not come available so soon, I might have.
  5. I bought it, spent about Eur 35 on buffers and couplings, mostly postage and customs. But could not get genuine spares. I have it relisted (the money for a pair of Mk 2 generator vans has to come from somewhere), but I expect it will not cover the cost of both.
  6. I was thinking 'bones'. It's almost a phonetic for the irish word 'cnamha'
  7. Thanks Robert. On closer examination, I realize that the pocket was attached to the coupling and the chasis that needs couplings also needs pockets! It was only when I looked up fishtail that I noticed that it must be a two part assemby.
  8. Does any of you know where to get buffers or the tension lock couplings for an MM201?
  9. How do I remove the bodyshell from a Murphy Models 201?
  10. About 20 years ago I bought an IE Lima Restaurant coach unboxed from Marks Models. Its been through two house moves, and various internal moves withing the house during that time. I cant remember when I last took it from its bubble wrap. Today I was looking through my stock when I found a box that I thought might fit. When I unwrapped it one of the bogies was missing! I have no idea where or when it became detached.
  11. Never trust ebay charges. Better off with AddressPal for more reasonable import and postage.
  12. Someone got #131 for a good price last night. I was very tempted, but the budget needs deployment in other areas right now
  13. Drumcullen GAA might be interested!
  14. I would suggest it is more authentic than much of what is appearing there!
  15. Sadly, it looks worse in reality.
  16. Here is an image of a grounded van body that I captured in July. It is located in the Drumcullen GAA grounds in Rath, Co. Offaly and is not visible from the road.
  17. Bill Posters should be getting royalties!

    New prototype?

    From the Offaly Independent
  19. As mentioned on the ebay thread, I acquired one Wiggy's scrap chassis - the one that was in two parts. I found that when I reassembled it and re soldered the pick ups that it ran well. Next step is to offer it to my Model Irish Railways bodyshell...
  20. Meanwhile, I bought one of Wiggy's scrap chasis. Ebay (or Wiggy) had pitched import duties at STG 15 if I recall correctly - and a big postage charge of maybe twice that. But I had it shipped to Addresspal in Herefordshire for a little over 4 Euro in postage. They looked at it and assessed it import duties at a whopping €2.16. There will be another 6 Euro to have it transshipped and maybe 4 euro more in admin fees for handling the customs end. Total Shipping including Duties is going to come in under EUR 16 - that was the import charge alone if I had let Wiggy send it directly to me.
  21. I think someome has bagged a bargain. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/385587396512 The couplings according to the seller are in the box and if as stated it is actually DCC fitted - as opposed to a 'layperson' mistaking a blanking plate for a chip then its a good price.
  22. If this keeps up, someone is going to bag one for a fiver!
  23. I think the legendary Jimmy Magee worked for the Dundalk, Newry and Greenore before going into sports broadcasting.
  24. Better yet, Beatrice Beatrice Kelly!
  25. I've been that person down the years. Twice I've had to raise 1000 fast and my models came to the rescue.
