  1. It will take me a while to get through that thread Sean. But on a scroll, it is very impressive. I'm away for a few days, but when I get back I could put something together on using a windows app called 'snip" for showing your screen. It would give better results than your phone camera.
  2. While the markers and main beams on the 071 are separate by default, when I went DCC I found that the markers and main beams were all together on F0. Can this be changed by tweaking the dip switches?
  3. Got it, mostly. Marker lights running forward and reverse as expected. Cab lights as expected, same for Forward Main Beams. Only issue is Reverse Main Beam. Mapping looks OK, need to double check, but could also be a decoder issue, or heaven forbid the loco circuitry.
  4. Thanks Sean, A couple of screen grabs from the Mapping and Settings would be great. I have the engine moving, and I though that the F0 mapping for the markers would happen automatically. But it hasnt.
  5. I'm only getting my DCC system up and going, I have LAIS decoders (4 fn in my 181 and 6 fn in my 071), and am using JMRI. Do any of you have a quick guide to programming the lights?
  6. He looks to have traded a number of Irish items in that time, but who knows what trades were real among them and what was 'bought' by other profiles under his control.
  7. Bags the scissors. A snip at 857!
  8. I found another topic on here which answers this nicely. )
  9. Will a 4 function decoder operate the cab lights in a Murphy's 071 or a 201?
  10. The Malcomson's were key shareholders in the Waterford and Limerick.
  11. Malcolmson's in Portlaw is for sale on BidX1. Hoping that the new owner does it justice.
  12. Almost done. A couple of lessons learned, it would be easier to abandon the PCB as George advised, but if like me you insist on keeping it, then un solder it from the motor as part of the disassembly. I didn't - it made the work much more awkward, and detached itself anyway! Early testing was a success, the only glitch is that forward and reverse are excusing the word, reversed! I need to fix that and test again.
  13. Thats a thought. That's something I might do when I address the issue of the tender coupling.
  14. I'm sticking with the decoder in the tender and keeping the PCB - so that if I have to replace the decoder in future I don't have to reopen the engine.
  15. I'm not finished yet, but if it has the circuit board, its one of the easier ones. I'm following here Bachmann N-class - How I did it. - DCC Fitting Guides - RMweb and here Bachmann N Class - non-DCC ready - DCC Fitting Guides - RMweb
  16. I got lucky George, I did exactly that and all was good. Some pieces of advice for anyone else who needs to remove a K class body shell, DO NOT UNDO THE CENTRE SCREW UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. If your base plate becomes disturbed and needs re fitting, fit it from the motor end forward, otherwise the motor end will not fit back properly While you have the body shell off secure the base plate at the motor end with a nut and bolt as seen here to prevent it becoming disturbed during the work - I am converting to DCC so there will be some handling
  17. I'll get painting when I get back to the shed. I thought I had one on the phone, but nothing that was of any use when I downloaded them. Here they are but I need at least one side on to be of any value.
  18. If you are comfortable with a soldering iron I recommend joining https://www.merg.org.uk/
  19. I'm about to convert my mogul (K Class) to DCC. The first thing I did was removed all the base screws. Bad Idea. The centre one should stay in place. The outcome of this is that before I do any conversion, I've got the valve gear binding! I need tips on how I can get them running freely again.
  20. IT might have - for concrete only.

Just found one unexpectedly where the Kilbeggan branch leaves the Grand Canal at Ballycommon, https://www.google.com/maps/@53.2809482,-7.3688051,3a,75y,88.04h,73.01t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sm01km2Qd-t3v7MZmy-k8sA!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3Dm01km2Qd-t3v7MZmy-k8sA%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D303.05978%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656 And there is a very good thread here: https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/8645-h-class-vans/#comment-135216
  22. As often as I have gone through the O'Dea collection, I only now noticed that the National Archive is placing Tullamore in Westmeath! Queue snarky letter to Tullamore Tribune.
  23. When my son plays football (favourite position - the bench) I tend to spend at least an hour feretting out local walk. Next up Ferbane. While the Clara Banagher line has largely disappeared, it looks like BNM repurposed a 4 KM stretch (the google streetview car even found it way onto it) from 53.30471050587556, -7.731137740923829 to 53.2845209348109, -7.780790207448966. Access from the R436 at Primo Coach works to the western end. There's also a disused impressive stone arched bridge at 53.268829820716384, -7.818276244239464 - but I havent visited so I cannot vouch for its safety.
