This could be the first of three circle lines running through Belfast. The second would be the re-opened GNR(I) and NCC lines through Cookstown, while third would be the re-opened former GNR(I) line to Londonderry/Derry linked to the NCC line. This would tie in with a new line to Letterkenny proposed in the All Ireland Study.

I particularly liked the 4-6-0, a might have been. I understand that Dundalk works was the limiting factor for the creation of such a loco.

What are the two wagons in the background of the first photo? They look like a pair of hopper wagons made out of box vans.

The first stage in re-opening the Derry Road perchance. However, one of the biggest obstacles in linking Londonderry and Letterkenny is bridging the Foyle, a wide river for some considerable length. Following the old CDJRC route would be my favourite.

I had the pleasure of visiting Ashford Carbonnell many years ago with, now defunct, Worcester Circle to see Adavoyle Junction in action. It was a truly lovely day. I am pleased that it survives in the care of the South Dublin MRC.

You’re assuming that the announcement will be on the 1st rather than the 28th.

When similar have sold for that price, it’s an obvious, if excessive, starting point.

None of us know when our time will be up, so make the very most of each day. RIP.

What can I say but that it’s a most impressive piece of work. Keep posting progress for us, please.

The photo of Albert Quay is interesting in that the whole station area is awash with goods wagons. Oh the way things used to be in both of the islands.

Considerable growth in the rail network in the Limerick area is proposed according to the latest issue of Railway Magazine. The already announced doubling of the line to Limerick Junction, plus re-opening the lines to Castlemungret and Adare to passenger traffic, two park and ride stations on the lines to Limerick Junction and Ballybrophy, a new station on the Ennis line and a rail link to Shannon airport. Big plans but then that is what is required to meet the challenge of combat global warming.

Does light grey also apply to Bulleid’s open wagons?

Yup, weathering covers a multitude of sins.

All the photos I’ve seen of CIE wagons have it as a very light grey. Is BR unfitted grey the correct shade?

The other thing I'm reminded of is that the K1a variant with the 6' driving wheels kept the same wheelbase as the K1, unlike the British "U"/U1s that had a slightly shorter wheelbase, so technically you could rewheel a Bachmann K1 into a K1a with small splashers and not too much extra work.
The boilers of the K1a’s would have been raised, just like the U1’s, to accommodate the larger diameter driving wheels.

Regrettably that is the situation in railway preservation today. No matter how worthwhile something is, you can’t always save it for posterity. I have to hope that the sole surviving 2600 series railcar at Downpatrick will eventually be restored for future generations to see a significant piece of railway history.

Has anyone spoken to Simon Dawson aka rue-d-etropal.com. He produces a fair amount of Irish prototypes already.

I wonder how many other members of ICE there are on IRM?
