A pleasure guys, the support was way beyond what any of us expected. It was heartwarming to see so much cross-cooperation from across the modelling community, the general enthusiast community, the heritage community, and Iarnród Éireann themselves (and I know some of you fall into all those categories!).

We'll say more in time but for now all I can say is, the question has changed from 'if' we run a 2nd tour to 'when' we run a second tour. ;)

Oh, little model-related tidbit, when I was arranging the headboard with the supplier we used a photo of a Bachmann Woolwich mogul as a reference.

How much was raised for the railways?

    Fake.

Had it from someone in the antiques trade, a foundry in New Ross churns out fake signs by the bushel.

Worth 10 or 15 euro, scrap iron value. I wouldn't pay any more for a novelty sign.

I thought it was in Limerick.

How many are they getting? And what for?

(Will the jax, as a revolutionary alteration to the design, have air (ideally fresh), ventilation, dry floors and toilet paper?)

Unsure how many but I believe around 40.

Plan, I was told, is to increase the number of coaches per train and allow some sets to be released onto other routes.

  5. Would anyone know the origin of the marking on the Wexford quays? I have heard it once marked the joining point of the DSER and the Fishguard harbour railway from Rosslare port to Wexford. Any truth in this?IMG_20220531_080825.thumb.jpg.f73e21003d9d3eeb9726ca21fa547a64.jpg

Do you mean in real life?

Downpattick has three locomotives, of which two are in working order. The RPSI has about ten, of which I think three are currently in working order.

The Cavan & Leitrim have two, with one in w/o.

Over the years, between the three, typically anything from 4 to 7 steam engines are operable.

Stradbally has one Bord na Mona engine operational or are we only talking mainline?

Its possible Thompsons or Carlow Museum may have information on corrugated iron buildings supplied to railways, Thompson's have been in business since the early 1900, Keenan's of Bagnallstown was another major Co Carlow based structural steelwork/corrugated building supplier.

Would you have an address or contact details for Thomspons?

  8. Hi Guys,

I am interested in knowing more about the corrugated metal buildings used on different railways especially those on the Macmine to New Ross line and the Rosslare, Wexford to Waterford line.

I am amazed how long these lasted despite the basic building materials. and would love to now was there a standard design for these. Is there any book published on the architecture?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Sorry about that Wex. The Brexit thing has cut GB off from the rest of the known Universe. The loss of trade by small businesses must be enormous.

Not sure why the RPSI doesn't charge you straight Euros by transfer, as I do when selling my kits - mind you I can do nothing about the postage!

You'll have to wait until a seller is at an exhibition - almost a reason for me coming over to sell kits and books!

Not to worry Leslie, I am fortunate to have a UK Debit Card and used that to order.

    Brexit is such a mess.
