  1. Might be wrong on that Dave, http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/aandhmodels/roco-z21-part10-multi-traction---consists-1262-c.asp Might be a bit complicated but can be done Must watch the video when I get a chance
  2. No Dave, not yet anyway. It's a pity but hoping an update in software in the future might sort it out but happy with the system as it is.
  3. Got a bit of track laid over the last few days, going ok, the zuron track cutter makes laying the flexi track easier than I thought it would be. Main change is the arrival of my dcc system, after lots of researching into it I ended up buying a Roco Z21, it is controlled by wifi so I connected the iPad and iPhone to it, works good. Took a few screenshots of the app going on the iPad, (not much happening on the layout, only 5 foot wired) First pic is my train screen, this is where you add locos, I added my 5 locos and used the pic from the web (you can also just take a pic) Next pic is the main driver screen, adjust speed, turn lights on off and swipe to select loco Next is driver screen again, this time with points control on right, I have no dcc points but this does tempt me!! This is the programming screen My 229 on the track
  4. Thanks Dave that's great advice, will investigate more into dcc switchinf
  5. Hi lads quick question on this, I intend throwing the points using dcc in the future, just going to manually switch them for now, should I use insulated joiners or just the ordinary ones? While I'm asking anyone switching with dcc? If yes what ones are ye using? Thanks
  6. No real progress since, have ordered more track and a dcc unit so will be mostly laying track and wiring now when that comes. While waiting I laid out track in loose form just to give myself better idea and have changed things a bit. This pic is of the main container loading yard It's going to be a double mainline, first spur track is just a run around and the two on the right the loading area. Also laid out a corner I was thinking of changing to incorporate a station platform Pic When I was laying out to my original plan it was looking cramped so thought of putting a platform on a curve like that in two places and use the full left side for a town scene with station, just wondering what lads think? Is platform on a curve like that totally unrealistic or does it just make good use of those corners and keep the rest of the layout more spaced out
  7. http://www.ehattons.com/22924/Hornby_R2684_Class_A4_4_6_2_4468_Mallard_70th_Anniversary_loco_tender_in_LNER_blue_Ltd_editi/StockDetail.aspx Hi all, not sure if anyone on here would be interested but will offer it here first anyway. This loco has never been run and had belonged to a collector, know it's not Irish but somebody might like it. Can be collected or posted, asking price €200
  8. http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=68718 That gives a good explanation of it, just wondered if anyone here had tried it
  9. Just wondering if lads are making their own decals? Presume you could photoshop a decal, scale it for a model, print on decal paper and stick it on the train/car/lorry. Is anyone doing it? Have a few vans I would like to do custom decals for an Xmas gift thanks
  10. Have this type of a design in my head, it's not based on anywhere in particular but point of focus being the container yard and main town. Do ye see any problems with it
  11. Thanks for the quick and in depth reply, lots of info there, would be great to see a step by step guide, will pm you with more details on my own layout, thanks again
  12. Hi Glenderg, I came across this thread for the first time this weekend, (still sifting through all the information the site has hidden away!!). Like a good book it was hard to put down and after a few pages I knew I was going to catch up quick. I felt compelled to post to say what an amazing portfolio of buildings etc. that you have documented. Will look forward to the updates now. Like many more who have posted, I felt inspired to give it a go as well, so popped into Easons and I am now armed with card ready to build. Like any beginner I have a few questions though. Are there any YouTube clips you would recommend to a beginner? Do you sell on (or donate:cheers:) your own drawings? What's a good glue to use? What do you use to support your structures (I ask this because it felt from your posts like the card was 1/4 inch thick )? Or just any general advice to a beginner would be most appreciated. Keep up the good work, thanks
  13. The baseboards are 3 foot wide all around, overall length is 14 and the width is 11.
  14. Just a quick update on progress. The baseboard is nearly done, just deciding on what way to work the lift out. The photo was taken with panorama setting on iPhone so show all sides of the layout. Next step is buy dcc controller (prodigy) and get wiring

  17. How about this one? http://www.ehattons.com/33735/Dapol_BHSPEC779b_KTA_Intermodal_pocket_wagon_in_debranded_ex_Tiphook_livery_weathered_97728_/StockDetail.aspx Not grey but not bright blue and it's weathered, do the trick?
  18. Thanks lads, saved me plenty of searching and surgery on unsuitable ones!!!!
  19. Just wondering what wagon lads use for carrying 40 foot containers? All the ones I seem to find have already got a container on them, was more looking for an empty wagon that I could put an Irish branded or plain container on. Thanks
  20. Sounds like good advice! Will make it 3 foot all around and will have to keep it between 30 and 34 inches if I want a back scene away from rafters! Next step will be buy a dcc controller-thinking gaugemaster prodigy express-seems a good start up set, anyone have it?
