  1. Shipping seems to have increased around cork in the last few years but it's shipping facilities aren't great for larger ships so there would be a lot of development needed before even thinking about a container port.If they were going to build a container terminal maybe a artificial terminal and port might be an option although that would be pretty far down CIE and cork city councils list of "to do's" and would only be necessary if it was a large project.

  2. Hi Kev think I get what your saying. Indeed if this thread does lose interest for only a few weeks it may be hard to find. I think we should get Bosko, Garfield or Warbonnet on that "standardized format" as I am a relatively new member

  3. Hi guys this is a thread where we put a bit of info on different classes of steam locos ( and possibly certain locos that are special in some way or are one of a kind eg the turf burner CC1). Don't worry the rest of yez I will get to a diesel thread shortly.

800 class 4-6-0 Maedb Macha Tailte

6,7 driving wheels 3,0 leading wheels

    34,799 tractive effort

Largest steam locomotives ever to run in Ireland

  4. Alright lads disassembling no.800. She came out of the situation without any real damage done. Garfield the running plate problem seems to be a bit better now and I think the problem was that the locos cab and buffer plate were sitting while the running plate(which would be about a cm above) would bow from the weight the boiler.the smoke box was not sitting correctly on its saddles so solder was put in to compensate. However this looked unsightly. The smokebox was re rolled and re attached to the saddles and sits on them correctly now.Glenderg the bit hanging out could have been a nut and bolt that have since been removed. The excess solder has been filed and sanded off and the resin cast has been properly fitted to the firebox and smokebox. I have decided to finish her myself. If everything works like it is on its current track i might be finished by the end of summer. Still having an awful time with pick ups. Doesn't seem to be much on rm web about them. Anyway have a new magnifying glass lamp thing which is extremely useful.

  5. Thanks for the pics;) Forgive me for asking but I know little about module layouts. If you wanted could you make your layout bigger with more modules? The locos look very good as well as the rolling stock,You seem to have plenty!

  6. Like your little layout.Having it modular in N gauge sounds a bit frustrating but would have a good sense of accomplishment when finished. Love the 800. Did you use a royal scot as a donor? It certainly looks the part. Well Done

  7. Do you think it looks warped? It may have just been the angle the loco was at because Put it against a ruler and it looked straight to it. The photos I take at the mo are not great because my good camera is eh... pushing up daisys so im hoping to get a new one. So the ye olde phone camera has to be used and I am not a photographer. If you want to PM me about the loco it would be good as your expertise could make me a bit better with crankpins and wiring.:D

  8. If you have radius under 36", very difficult to do reverse propelling. And then you have so many types depending on era, instantor, screw etc.

As a compromise have a look at the Dingham coupler. At least it uses an oversize buffer beam hook the uncoupling dropper can be a rigid three link iron coupler . ( even if it's in the wrong place and both sides hang down.

Unlike TL couplings , it's also capable of delayed uncoupling , so realistic shunting is possible

Thanks JM, after looking at the dingham coupler it looks pretty good, It looks right:)
