Mrs. Snail might be happy to accept the house burning down if it means getting rid of those damn trains!
Not disagreeing on price, it's a massive massive jump! Think that the sound fitted Accurascale 92's were around €335, and having a non-sound model, or two, or whatever, I can vouch for them being incredible:
awh man i switched tabs and then i was like WTF when my laptop started off chuckling menacingly!

probabaly just a cd case or some shite, half considering a plastic chinese tub for slightly opaque/shaded windows since theres no real interior to speak of.
more worried about how ill get thing masked up for black and the best way to go about adding the lining stripes.
this will be happening also after seeing this, the whole idea of getting power from the rails was missing the one idea of how the hell i could make pickups easily, this solves that, also gives me scope to mount a speaker and some sort of audio decoder later on, that wont cost much at all since it will just be a generic mp3 player type circuit board getting power from the rails.

you can see here also how they raised and extended all the platforms to accomodate these sets. kinda just ploppled it all down ontop of the old platform and called it a good job.

I do often find it funny that Irish rail who are obsessed with eco friendliness are putting engines in eery carriage of a railcar rather than building or buying a efficient locomotive with only one engine.
loco haled trains are more eco friendly, substantially smoother ride and far better for us enthusiasts.
a loco hauled service pulls many times it own weight though and the engine is generally ran pretty hard. requiring more frequent maintenance and overhauls.
a dmu with power in every car would essentially be a number of "locomotives" running in multiple and the whole thing works together with each motor essentially running a relatively light load. I could only assume that this leads to reduced maintenance, running costs and overhauls as the engines would not need to be worked as hard to get up to speed etc.
I dont have any hard data but ive often wondered how the running costs would vary between a single 121 or a pair of 121 running in multiple for lighter trains of course the engine technology is completely different to how it is in a modern 4 stroke DMU

I'm sure my Dad had a different opinion!
So are there any fixed configurations for multiple running of 22000's?
Like, do they run in 6+6 format, or is a 6+3 the longest etc?
seems to commonly be a 2x3 car down my way. heading over there in a half an hour so ill try an remember to grab a video of the rev up/drive away.
If i recall right 6 is the maximum for the wexford line as most of the platforms are extended to accomodate the extra car. no more trailing beyond the end of the platform anymore!

Still, the last decade or two, the closest I get to rail travel is the Tranvia / tram up in Santa Cruz, so you guys don't know how lucky you are with your grey 071's, your 22000's and your RPSI specials!
kato do a line of a very inexpensive trams with its own road embedded track system....

that is easy, im breaking my own rules and getting the later ones.
very much dislike the bowling ball running numbers

supposedly both power cars run off a single decoder so surely that means theres going to be a wiring link running the length of the train to tap into the speaker bus.........
just sayin.....

better get your soldering iron out...

That is awesome!
Thank you for finding and sharing.
Sounds like a fleet of locos starting all at once.
I've ordered IRM's non-sound 22000's but will have to consider a few sound ones after that.
Don't mind the moaners here, that was absolutely fabulous!
2 speakers per set, buy a couple of three car sets and double head........

Remember when we had the countdown but then they forgot about the bus so we had an announcement before the annoucement and then another announcement.

I quite enjoy standing in the station these days and hearing all of the engines revving up at once before the thing silently glides away.

quite pleased with how shes looking after the wet sand and im finally finding myself happy with the window proportions although they are gonnna need another spot of filler into the corners for one last tidy up, that means im happy to move onto the other 3 sides of the thing now which im anticipating wont take as long, the shoulder shape isnt final yet as i think its better to leave them and the 2 ends until last, the gangway into the luggage compartment also needs to be cut down a bit so ill tackle all this together as my last few jobs but im doing the other side first as i need to match up the doors when the door is still fresh in my mind.
found an engraver in the shed that apparently the mother bought from aldi at some stage, gonna try and engrave the EGV grilles, could be either delightful or a complete disaster.

Dj sent me pics of his dutch van the other night so ive kinda just been obsessively adjusting this side trying to get everything to roughly where i would like it to be.
Having spent far too much time on the windows its a good relief to know the ends and the other side should take far much less fettling to get everything as i would like them to be.
high build primer is great for highlighting and filling any imperfections, should feel lovely once it dries and i get to wetsand it.
still on the lookout for some nice egv grilles, looking like 3d print is gonna be my best option.

When i buy sand for an aquarium i usually just grab the cheapest stuff off the shelf which generally needs to be washed thoroughly or else your brand new aquarium quickly turns into a large puddle of illuminated mud..
Quarter fill a bucket with sand, fill up the rest of the way with water, agitating the sand as much as possible. this leaves you with a bucket of muddy water, pour off the water and repeat,
after about 10-20 passes( yeah it can take a while) the water will stay crystal clear no matter how much you agitate the sand, Im not sure if just straight up boiling it would remove all of the salt but it might be enough for this application.
you will lose sand doing it this way so get more than you need, another common method is to half fill a pillowcase with sand and let the hose run through it for a while but ive never had much success with that method.

Pretty delighted with how its shaping up. going to need a mountain of filler though as i overdid it on the windows. (eye it up cut it and then measure twice)
Went back to the lima mk2 and cut out the toilet windows to fill in my oopsie, also cut out the battery boxes and put them underneath and took the metal weight and fit it inside of the shell.
Pretty much considering this side done, besides the aforementioned fillering, and a fuel cap and the weird indent thing beside it. on the other side I just have to add the doors in and source egv grilles from somewhere.
its sitting a little high at the moment but the bogies are running on what seem to be quite oversized oldschool wheels, Gonna borrow some wheels from a dapol kit to see how it sits before i do anything further to address this as the ride height will change when i fit those. Will also look at replacing the D link with a magnetic coupling for overall fleet compatibility.
im not too bothered about getting the roof detail correct as this is just intended to be a quick and dirty build to fill a gap in my mk2 rake until somthing better is released and it will also give me a chance to practice my painting a little more.

Unfortunately, my SF model has the dual white stripes but not the big shoulders.
So it's kind of a Dutch mongrel.
Was it three or four that were converted?
