Wexford70 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) Hi guys, Were these voidmeters ever used on Irish railways? Edited September 15, 2021 by Wexford70 Quote
jhb171achill Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 What IS it? What does it do? Personally, I've never even heard of it..... Quote
DiveController Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) Used by PW to detect a 'void' under the rail in need of ballast, amount depending on the amount of deflection of the needle as the traffic passes over the rail. Would have no use now with such heavily ballasted track and more modern electronic assessment of rail/ballast integrity I would think. Edited September 14, 2021 by DiveController 2 Quote
