DCC Decoder

Question

Hello chaps, I bought some Bachmann 21 pin DCC decoders, I fitted them to discover that they are Sound Traxx, they are not programmed all the CV values are set at 0.

Has anyone tried them? Are they any good? I don't mind keeping them if they are ok.

That raises my next question, I am using a Bachmann Dynamiss controller, I can't read or change CV values unless I buy the pro box. The cost of the pro box is nearly €200. I am thinking of getting the NCE Power Cab after seeing Anthony's one.

Should I change or get the pro box?

Thanks

Dave stay we'll away from the Dynamis/pro box. The money you would spend on the pro box would buy you the NCE power cab and you could sell your Dynamis and claw some money back. Therefor you would have a cracking starter system for little money. If your up my neck of the woods I can program your decoders for you.

Cheers Man

I have to say I was very impressed with the NCE, I have been researching DCC controllers for the last two weeks.

My only issue with the NCE is the starter on runs up to 5 trains on 2.5 amps, yet the 5 amp will run 250 trains, at the same time! I have emailed NCE and I am waiting to hear back, as I can't see 5 amps powering 250 Trains!

I ve had the dynamsis with the pro box, for years never gave me any bother. Find it simple to use and it does everything that I require.

Price wise the basic unit was approx 80 euro and was bought from Grahams and the pro box was picked up on the nrm forum for less than 100 complete with a second handheld.

I do like the Dynamis, but it does have its draw backs, I'm leaning towards the NCE Power Cab. The price of a new pro box is too much.

Hi

I see that Bachmann's 21 pin decoder (36-557) now has 4 function outputs. Would that do for 201's and run the cab lights as well. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the old 3 function 36-554 would work in 201's but that you just wouldnt have cab lights.

Has anybody tried this combination.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that would only give you cablights at one end.

To get everything working on a 201 you will need a 6 function decoder or else you could do some rewiring on the loco circuit board

Do even the "faulty" circuit boards work with a 6 Pin decoder do some still need modifying?
