GNR Gardner Resin Bus kit

George Heaney of Sunrise models and transfers has announced that he in intends to produce a resin kit of a GNR Gardner bus. It will be based on the earliest version from 1938 many of these lasted well into the 1950's. This will be quite a departure for George as all of his kits to date have been based on buses popular with Scottish operators. If he gets enough advance orders he aims to get the kit released this year, around October if possible, so that it can be on sale at the South Dublin model railway exhibition on the bank holiday weekend. Georges models are produced to a very high standard, they are all mastered by Jim Poots master maker so quality is assured. Hopefully this will be a very successfull model appealing to both bus and the large number of GNR(I) railway modellers. A small number of these buses passed to other small operators after service with the GNR. The Sligo Leitrim and Northern Counties railway had some, one of which ended up with Erne bus service in Co Leitrim. I have been told that OS Coaches had one but maybe someone else can confirm this.

 

If this model sells well we may be able to persuade George to build the other main varients of the Gardner, most of which survived to see CIE service and carried a variety of liveries, even the CIE Tours primrose yellow and grey.

Hello,

 

Spoke with George Heaney, this evening and ordered a Gardner from him. He is coming across to Dublin this October for an Exhibition. Looking at his WEB page he is also planning to produce a DUT/CIE Alexander Bodied bus. I mentioned the A and N to him as I do not remember any Tigers running with the Alexander/DUT cut-away rear doors. Am I correct re the Tigers?

 

Reference the GNR Gardner Buses, can anyone out there assist with answering this question. What advertisements did they carry on their luggage racks? Phoenix, Club Orange, Albany - any others?

 

Did the Gardiners have advertisements on the rear panels?

Did the Gardiners have advertisements on the Off-side corner panel?

 

Possible advertisements! Heffner's sausages, Wallace Coal, Heitons Coal, Mex Petrol -stretches your mileage.

I've just received one of these GNRi Gardner buses and I have to say, to my mind - it's a lovely resin kit! Well recommended if you're thinking of taking the plunge and ordering one! Very nice set of transfers included as well.

I received my BUILT Gardner from George a couple of days ago.

 

Now, I'm operating on my back-up "distance" specs, as the "proper" ones broke in Switzerland, but even "at a distance" it's a very fine model indeed and I heartily recommend it to lovers of the GREAT Northern - even though it's a bus.

 

I'd love to say that it's now in service, but it's upstairs in its box, amidst the chaos on my baseboards!
