CIE/GSR Pullman Car

Rate this question

One of the first ever 'Irish' items I ever purchased was this old Pullman car custom painted in the CIE livery, I would like to know weather this is a work of fiction or if there ever were cars on the network running in these colours. I know the great southern railway bought a small few carriages, but I cant find much other information on them. Would love to paint up a rake of Irish Pullmans if I could find any info on them and their colour schemes.

Thanks

See pages 5-12 of the attached magazine from The Pullman Society of the United Kingdom.  Etched brass "scratch-aid kits" of the Irish Pullmans might still be available from Worsley Works.  (I'm about to follow up on my query of September regarding four I want to order before the proprietor ceases trading.)

Interesting!

Livery details - when delivered they appear to have been in the standard Pullman brown and cream livery. At the same time, the GSR started painting main-line bogie corridor stock in a brown and cream scheme, possibly imitating this livery (though secondary stock and six-wheelers remained dark maroon).

By the late 1930s the Pullmans were in standard GSR maroon. Senior recalled seeing at least one in maroon with "GREAT SOUTHERN PULLMAN" on it, but this may have been short-lived as I have never seen any photo of it.

In early CIE days they gained the normal green livery.

Black roofs, not silver, for GSR & CIE liveries.
