Mol_PMB Posted yesterday at 14:57 Author Posted yesterday at 14:57 Anyway, whatever happened to IRM’s plans for a model footbridge? Put out to grass I guess. This one appears to be Scottish. Not sure if they all were? 2 1
Mol_PMB Posted yesterday at 16:35 Author Posted yesterday at 16:35 The new Galway station is impressive. The reinstated south side is now in use, and the former north side is being refurbished. 5

Commuting from Oranmore (where, incidentally, the GNRI MAK diesel ended its days) is clearly a viable option. Really good to see Ennis and Limerick as destinations from Galway - I remember when that was not so! Sligo next….;) Edited yesterday at 17:18 by Galteemore 2
Mol_PMB Posted 9 hours ago Author Posted 9 hours ago Thanks to everyone who got in touch with ideas for my trip. I was able to fill my time with interesting and enjoyable activities despite the weather. The final item in the agenda before my flight home this afternoon was a wonderful model railway operating session - many thanks to Michael for making me so welcome. His 1980s Irish layout has been very carefully planned to give lots of operating interest with both passenger and freight trains serving 3 stations and numerous freight facilities. It’s great fun to operate with 2 people, and very reliable. Scenery will come next! At the junction station, two expresses pass while the branch train waits in the bay. There’s also a cement terminal here, and a beet loading bank: The branch terminus has sidings into the magnesite factory (dolomite, magnesite and oil traffic) plus a beet loading bank. Here’s a busy moment with plenty of baby GM action: Dolomite comes from the mine on the other side of the room. Here loaded and empty wagons are exchanged: On the other side of the layout is a container terminal and oil siding, where freights can also run round if needed: Beyond this is the terminal station. A sneak peek into the fiddle yard, split into north and south sections plus a couple of roads in the middle that can serve either direction: Great fun to operate a busy sequence of freight and passenger trains. I also enjoyed using the Roco multimaus controllers which were very intuitive. I’ve been wondering about getting a new DCC controller myself as mine is 20-odd years old. 5
mfjoc Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Thanks for calling in Paul. It was great fun to trial a proper operating session with a real enthusiast. We got about two thirds of the way through a days simulation before he had to depart to catch his flight. 1 1
