mk2s Belfast

Does anyone know when the last time the IE mark 2s were in Belfast apart from like going to Whitehead to get done up for RPSI was? And when they served as the enterprise, did the 201s or 071s run around at Central, or did they still go to York Road? Any pics of them up here in recent years would be excellent!

I think 2006 or 2007 was the last time Mk2Ds went to Belfast to fill in for a failed DD set. The Mk2s would have been taken off the early morning Sligo service ex Connolly and the spare Cravens set at Connolly sent to Sligo instead.

I remember working at oxford street bus depot and watching the GM,s pull coaches out onto the bangor line at the River Lagan bridge and running round the coaches there and then going back into platform 2 after the run round.

Agreed but I don't ever remember seeing them leaving the coaches at the platform and running around. I could be wrong.

No they didn't leave the coaches at the platform they shunted them out to the bridge over the river lagan and the GM,s run round them out there and hauled them back into platform 2.

Any idea why they chose to run around the coaches out there instead of in the station

yeah free up a platform and the track layout made it easier to do... plus coaches and GM could sit out there for 20 mins or so.

Would that not have created a bottleneck though if there were only two tracks, one for each direction?

Trains to Bangor were every half hourly back then,so the operation did not impact on the normal services. The final Enterprise service each day would then head to Central Services for cleaning etc.
