Geordiekerryman Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Hi Has anyone built a slope into their layout. How do you make the transition from flat to rise. Peco track, neither setrack, nor streamline bend in the vertical plane. So please enlighten me how it is done Regards GeordieKerryman
0 Broithe Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 If you go for a slope of around 1/40 max, then sweep it with about a foot of hardboard, you should have no problem.
0 Dave Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 The transition from flat needs to be very gentle, the track will bend no problem.
0 Dave Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Here is a couple of pics from a layout I am currently working on showing the start of the slope. Locos climb effortlessly
0 DiveController Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I've been running a rake of ten coaches behind a baby GM last night so I can't imagine that the loco would have issues climbing on a gentle slope like shown. No experience of transition onto grades but planning some so have been thinking about this. Test your longest rake on the grade before you even consider the transition remembering tighter curves increase the effective grade on the track A number of shorter tracks with joiners at the transition point would probably allow some flexibility in the vertical plane as long the angular increase at any individual join is small
