GNRi1959 Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Can anyone comment on the behaviour of plywood in a garden shed over the life of a model railway. I have just painted the edges and undersides of my baseboards with grey primer/undercoat as a treatment to seal and protect. The shed is insulated, dry and cool on the inside with ventilation at the gables. Would you bother painting the top side of the ply which is where I was going to glue down my 3mm cork surface before track laying? It's easy done but my thinking was that a coating of exterior PVA wood glue to stick the cork would be enough, whats your view? Quote
brianmcs Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 the paint would inhibit the PVA because it would prevent it soaking into the ply . Quote
GNRi1959 Posted March 5, 2018 Author Posted March 5, 2018 (edited) I thought that brianmcs which is why I painted the underside and threw this out for debate. I agree. Cheers Edited March 5, 2018 by GNRi1959 Quote
PJR Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Have to say I painted the top and had no problem with pva and ballast. Quote
brianmcs Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 chances are , the adhesion between the PVA and the paint would be more than enough for the cork and or ballast. After all , there is very little load on it . Quote
