jhb171achill Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Greetings I recently got another Murphy 141. I have two already, carrying different numbers, but the one I recently got is a duplicated B141. I want to change it to B145 or B147. The numbers on the ends are so small that I'll deal with these by judicial weathering; in real life, numbers often became obscured. I remember seeing one locomotive at Claremorris with the number on one end being completely unreadable. My question is this: regarding the numbers on the sides, what's the best way to remove the final "1", and with what transfers might a "5" (or whatever) be added instead? Quote
NIRCLASS80 Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 If there like the 071’s I simply used a wooden cocktail stick and started gently rubbing at the centre of the number and within 30 seconds they started to peel off. 1 Quote
murrayec Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 (edited) Hi jhb As NIRCLASS80 says above use a stick, or preferably a bud and add a small bit of T-Cut to soften the numbers, it leaves the paint nicely polished for applying the new numbers. Des in Studio Scale Models can supply decals for this, I'd recommend replacing all the numbers just to keep the font the same- nothing worse than having the new '5' not match the existing font! Here's one that I did earlier! converted to 143 to pull the 'Transition DART' with des's decals;- Eoin Edited September 17, 2019 by murrayec 2 Quote
jhb171achill Posted September 18, 2019 Author Posted September 18, 2019 Thanks, Eoin. I'll check what decals of Des' I already have, as I bought a load of them some time ago at the Stillorgan show, I think. The one I'm looking at is in the original BnT livery, so the numerals are (a) the large ones on the sides, and (b) not shaded. Quote
