Dont forget you also end up with 8113 in mid 2000's onwards condition with LED lights. If you want to be really strict a dab of red onto the sides of the light clusters

Never thought of that. Takes some of the sting out of such a project as at least you can still end up with two prototypical locos with just a few minor modifications required.

Insane when you can buy one from Chris Dyer, repainted into any livery you like, for less!

PM must be facing quite the dilemma - get NIR locos out to haul the NIR coaches, or get coaches out that have only the A's available on the shelves to haul them.

The ebay listing is offering a choice of either 112 or 113, but neither of these are suitable for hauling the NIR Mk.2's as they depict a mid-2000's livery variation for 112 and 113. The correct 1990's livery was never released by MM and can only be achieved either by a repaint or merging the top of MM0112, the bottom and glazing from MM8113 together to depict a 1990's version, which makes for a very expensive project at current prices.

@iarnrod The table you posted will give you most of what your need. Something very similar in Jonathan's Allen's 35 years of the NIR 1967-2002. If you let me know your modeling era and need more info I'm happy to look it up and send to you if you PM me. Many of the 800 numbered stock disappeared fairly early either physically or were renumbered into the 900 series with newer stock

    Hi Noel,

It would indeed. The grille is the tricky one due to it's unique nature but the rest of the coaches can be renumbered and we did our best not to use same numbers across the different packs to give lots of variety.

    Cheers,

    Fran

Thanks Fran. I like what you did with the different numbers in each pack. Would be the  Corporate livery that I'm after, so will research a bit more to see which packs are best donors for renumbering.

@iarnrod I reckon renumbering these might be easier said than done. The numbers are bound by the black stripe. The transfers would need to be very small. I'm not sure how tall the railtec ones are.

I thinking as Railtec already produce the numbers for these carriages, that they could shrink or enlarge their transfers, if required,  to match what will arrive from IRM.

Harder problem is finding photos of these carriages online as they are proving quite elusive.

  6. @WarbonnetFran, would you lads know from your research if it is possible to renumber any of the coaches in the Corporate packs to form additional protypical NIR coaches? I suspect Pack 3 will give additional standard class coaches  by simply renumbering some, but curious about any of the other variants, as would purchase additional packs if this was the case. Thanks

  7. The fact that IRM are releasing 547 and the Driving Trailer alone is amazing, particularly with 547 as it's such an oddball carriage.

Hopefully, sales are encouraging enough to enable further NIR carriages once the Mk. 2C is released as a more mainstream range by IRM/Accurascale. One Mk.2C already crept into one of the NIR packs, so I would imagine Mk.2C's will be in the next tranche of Mk.2's from IRM/Accurascale.

Noel, thanks very much for putting that together! With my Doyle and Hirsch editions in hand you just saved me a whole lot of work :fingersintheair:

Put it together to try and get my head around NIR Mk.2 stock. For such a small fleet, there was some amount of different versions and changes over the years.

Dates for conversions and seating numbers seem to differ depending on where you look, but broadly speaking, should be accurate enough to allow an overview of NIR stock for anyone purchasing the latest goodies from IRM.

  9. Question for the IRM lads or any NIR Mk.2 guru's out there.

Is it possible to create additional protoypical NIR coaches by simple renumbering from any of the three corporate livery packs? I suspect Corporate Pack 3 is a good candidate at least.

Also worth mentioning is that 112 wore the original livery into 1993 and possibly beyond.

Was that MM0112 and MM0113 merged together to form that particular type in the photo or how did you achieve it? A release of this livery variant by MM would be epic right about now.

  11. Just spent the last hour researching the NIR coaches. For such a small fleet, there was a lot of variations existed and it makes for interesting reading.

British Rail Matk 2 Coaches by Micahel Harris gives a rather detailed account of them, which along with the various Irish stock books, show a lifespan of renumberings and conversions for quite a few of them.

I reckon that there are a huge amount of 111's and 201's out there already, crying out for coaching stock...

I personally know of six NIR locos in need of coaching stock, and I'm sure they are the rule rather than the exception.

Another run of 071's would be a treat, specially in grey and in NIR livery, though!

Great for anyone that has 111's to hand, but for anyone that doesn't,  I can see any that appear on ebay over the next while most likely going for astronomical prices.

Also, if memory serves me correctly,  there were only 250 done of each of the 111's. As someone already said above, the only prototypical one out of them for these coaches  is 111.

  13. While I know that these coaches ran with other locos, they spent the majority of their working lives behind a 111 Class. The lack of availability of MM 111 Class locos might hinder the sale of these coaches to some extent.

I would think that it would be a win both for MM and IRM, if another batch of 111's were to be released; MM could release an already tooled model in liveries that were already released and IRM would probably sell more of these coaches as suitable locos (111 Class) would be available to haul them.

Perhaps IRM will be announcing ranges of coaches somewhat sooner :)

Considering MM have released Cravens and Mk.2's, with Mk.3's hopefully on the way, that would leave Park Royals, the various CIE Inchicore built coaches and the current Cork or Belfast stock to be produced in model form, assuming a product isn't duplicated by two manufacturers.

My money would be on Park Royals from that lot, considering the A Class is about to hit the shelves soon and the fact that the Park Royals had a long life span over multiple livery era's.

However, still fair game for north of the border coaching stock with the 70 and 80 Class and the various Mk.2 Enterprise stock (aside from the previously released MM triple pack of NIR coaches) still to be produced in model form. Hard to call on this lot, but 80 Class would be a likely candidate, considering their brief use on IR metals for a few years in the late 1980"s.

In any case, lookimg forward to whatever the new announcement(s) is/are.

  15. If you selarch on ebay, you will see what previous ones have sold for, but ebay prices vary depending on codition, demand, livery etc. just like any auction.

Any of the ones that I bought at shows or from individuals over the past year or two have been anywhere between €200-€250 if that helps.

  16. For anyone interested in the CIE/IR period, I made contact with the person (a former CIE employee) that was responsible for digitising all of The Link and Nuacht CIE staff newsletters spanning from 1947-2002. These are available on DVD format for viewing on laptops and PC's.

Generally speaking, in the past these have only been made available to former CIE staff members and researchers. However, the person responsible has given me permission to share this on here.

Cost of the DVD is €10 plus postage. All proceeds from the DVD's are given to charity.

Anyone interested in obtaining a copy, please PM me, and I will give you the person's contact details.

I am just posting this here as I reckon it will be of interest to some forum members. Other than that, I have no involvement with the DVD production or sales.
