    I have catalogued this collection and have as a result obtained permission to use the views on flickr. There are some 110 Irish images from July 1950. Naturally I have started with the SLNCR! 3 viwes from the 1 July.

    First a faded colour view at Guinness Brewery ca 1962. Next 218 at Howth 28 Sept 1978. The last one is ca 1920 or even earlier NCC A Class 66 at York Road

    This one has appeared in print a few times , J G Dewing's original slide Omagh May 1960 Then a couple on the C& L Arigna branch in June 1957 5T on a coal train and 4T with the guard supervising shunting (whistle not a radio in his hand!) next to a couple of metal sheathed brake vans.

    You can still get the traditional wire in tube from lychett Manor who acquired the old Gem Mercontrol system. As you are living in the UK Tony there shouldn't be any "import" problems. They stopped using the copper tube many years ago when Cornard (now defunct) started manufacturing the same type of system but using plastic type tube. Address/web site on the photo.

    Looking at the image of A42 at Dun Laoghaire the overall colours of the view look a bit suspect to me when you compare it to this July 1960 view of J G Dewings which is from an original Kodachrome slide in my collection. How much would this affect the green hue I wonder?

    It must have had some kind of stone base for the king pin in the centre and the rail for the wheels at the deck ends but I would have thought the turntable would have been built prior to the mass use of concrete. It looks like the pit has accumulated a fair bit of surplus ballast and weeds over the years. Have you sorted out the dreaded curling transfers yet? Its getting near my birthday/Christmas.

    I've been sent a number of negs from the June 1961 Joint Irish Rail Tour, unfortunately not very good quality but there are some interesting and reasonable views. This one reminded me of this thread. An interesting turntable with a pit but no deck or handrails etc. Ballaghadereen 8 June 1961

    Suffering a bit from "Carntbearsedtosis" today but no doubt it will pass. Here is 138 at Clonmel 21 March 1960, I already have John Dewing's black and white negative and recently acquired his original colour slide.

    I'm back in the land of the living. Here are the results of my days in self isolation. I also did a few running sessions which confirms that as usual my track laying is up to its usual crap standard so I have endeavoured to ensure that the new sections are up (or should it be down to) to the same standard. I have also ordered a Bachmann Ffestiniog Double Fairlie - well your only on this planet once. The plan is to put a 5'-2' board above the fiddle yard between Glengarriff and Drowes River but 12 inches above it and do a roundy roundy on that. Here are some views of the last few days handiwork.

    I have 4 LMS old Main line cattle wagons which I have slapped some grey paint on and I might try whilst isolating putting some of the Railtec snails on them plus I have an idea about using some real cow dung which I can collect tomorrow before my Swab to weather them up realistically. The question is does Halti cow dung look the same as Sligo dung!

    Alan are these the transfers that Leslie supplied with the kits? I've found the Railtec ones I'd lost in the pending negative scanning box so you can have them. The kits were hanging about in the loft since before Covid so the adhesive may have suffered some kind of damage from the heat in Halti's tropical summer heatwave.

    That sounds plausible, you can't tell from the photograph that the pipe is actually connected to the locomotive.

    I've been catching up on the scanning today and in the batch is this neg at Guinness Brewery with a rather odd attachment on the loco ! A small pipe at the far end which has been inserted into a kind of 'drain pipe' on the wall. Why? It could be a water column but is somewhat over-sized for the locos water capacity and you would think if water is coming down the pipe then the connection should be the other way round with the 'down' pipe inside the 'up ' pipe. I'm not holding out much hope of an answer but you never know!
