Thanks all, looks like I'll be here for a while longer. I failed the stress test and a cardiac doctor had to be called.
That's not good!
-
Thanks lads, another round of tests tomorrow. Brain MRI followed by cardio stress test.

Good points Eoin. We used 3x1" vertical support around the edges of the baseboards, with 2x1" vertical cross members on both axis, all screwed and glued to the ply baseboard. The legs are free standing on their own folding sub-frames. I've only moved the layout twice before. It took a whole day to split the sections using the butterfly bolts, move it, and reconnect everything. Each board has its own sets of old style 25pin D-type computer connectors for the electrics (i.e. track feeds to the old DC sections).
The 3" vertical edges seems to have created a degree of stability as well as strength. I can climb up onto the boards if needed no problem.
Very well constructed Noel.

Enjoyed this youtube channel very much also.
Along with Chambs123, Intercity82 and Sam's trains.
Has anyone ever watched Jenny Kirk's Channel. A female railway modeller (pause for shock)
She's very boring though and not that good. Have a look at Kathy Millatt, great videos and very good modelling too.

Looks completely prototypical, what's the problem again?
It does actually!
-
His baseboard construction was crap. He said it himself in the video. Even if he used ply it still would have warped because it was not supported properly.
MDF gets a bad rap because people do not understand how to use it.

Excellent! Looks like it could do a good a job as a CMX
-
This layout is now sold and coming back to Ireland. Watch this space for further developments!
-
This layout is now for sale. It will be going up in detail on my website soon
Anybody seriously interested give me a shout.
-
Hands down the CMX is the best track cleaner on the market. A lot of my customers love them. The Dapol is useless though, it just doesn't have the weight in it to put pressure on the cleaning pad.

Wiggy has passed?
No, he's very much alive and well. He posts on the Irish section on RM Web.

My track is laid and wired and running well. I have a list of jobs that need doing but can anyone suggest what order I do these. Don't want to run into trouble later.
Point Controls
Painting and weathering my rails
Ballasting
Laying dummy point control kits
Thanks
Hi Tony,
When I'm building clients layouts I fit the point control after laying and wiring the track. Then I test everything. The next stage is to airbrush the track in sleeper grime, then fit the dummy point motors along with signals and Yard Lights as these look better ballasted in.
I also start basic scenery before I ballast such as plaster bandage as this can be very messy and difficult to remove from ballast.
Then ballast and I go over the track with the airbrush and lightly weather the ballast. If you weather the track after ballasting without painting the track first the ballast looks too dirty and typically ballast is quite clean unless it's a yard or siding.
Ultimately it's personal choice and rule 1 applies, it's your layout, your rules!

Omaha North had a total re-wiring over the past few days. All cables were re-routed around the baseboard edges under bell-wire clips and away from paintwork. I am seriously considering the Megatracks point system that controls up to 12 points from one board. Tomorrow I have to make one final linking of cables to new front panel mounted board and I can start of the platforms.
Hi Tony,
Have a look at my YouTube channel, I have some videos on the MegaPoints system. I'm the agent for Ireland and have them in stock as well as custom made cables and mounting brackets.

Best wishes for the future in your new premises Dave. Looks great.
Thanks Noel

If at first you don't succeed, try and try again! Best of luck Dave! Offaly... I'd be more worried about the water coming from below than above!!
Thanks Dave!

Well after moving to Valleymount which turned out to be a complete disaster. The landlord said it was dry but after the first heavy rain fall I had nearly 20 leaks in the roof! He refused to repair it properly.
There was over €600 worth of damage done to a layout. So I had to find somewhere more suitable.
I have moved to a more modern unit in Edenderry, Co. Offaly as I moved to Carbury its only 10 mins from the house.
You can follow the progress on my Facebook page where there are more pics and I'll give a progress report https://www.facebook.com/modelrailbaseboards/

Such an iconic layout. You really have captured a lovely scene in time.

Well, that didn't last long!
Gone!

Hi guys,
I have a client bought an 8' x 4' baseboard from me a few years ago. He has moved and no longer has the space for it. It's painted grey on the top and has a few holes in it from his layout. It's in 3 sections with legs and is easy to put together.
New this is worth €290, so it's a bargin for free!
If you want it you need to make arrangements to collect it from Donnybrook in Dublin.
If interested you can contact me on 087 6555052 or email me david@modelrailbaseboards.com

The plan was to paint it in early green/grey roof/white flashes. I am open to suggestions, early silver might look smart?
I'd say silver would look awesome!
-
A chopped DP1, this will be interesting! Paint it in the 071 grey!
-
I have code 55 finescale track and points in stock. Code 55 looks much better than 80 as code 80 is very overscale
-
That's excellent John, I've only finished the track and wiring. Better get me finger out!
Wishing Dave Well

Thanks lads, going down for an angiogram this morning. That should be fun!
