  1. Hey Jack

MOATE STATION IN 1920! I have all the drawings of the station when they did a survey in 2015 I think. Modaling Moate in 1920 would be hard as it is impossible to get any drawings of a A or C class (steam engines) I live near Moate and have surveyed the station a million times so I was going to model it myself in O gauge. If you want any help please just ask as I know people who could get you inside the station. If you need pics join the IRRS as they have lots of photos of the area.

  2. Hey all

Due to covid 19 I have been able to spend time researching a long term goal of building Moate railway station in 1920 in O gauge, so does any one know any formations of Midland stock like the Breathland track layer, the limited mail and cattle traffic. Also did J26s use the line between Athlone to Mullingar as I have herd that they were used there in GSR days . The next thing is Midland livery's. I am grateful to JHB171achill for giving information on station building livery's and I am very grateful. If anyone could help I would also be gratefull. Hope you all like.

I am also thinking of exending my diorama of Inishlyre with my spare time.  It may have a platform with shelter. The reason is so I can display small engines with 6 wheel coaches. If anyone has an idea of what I might do please feel free to coment as all coements are welcome.

I once nearly came to make a model of Achill rail station just after it had opened to about 1915 so it could have engines like wolf dog and bat working togethor.I allso nearly came to model broadstone but that would have never happened as it would be 40 to 50 feet long in oo!

There are a number of books. next time there's a model railway show, the IRRS (Clifton Flewitt) will probably have a bookstall. Ask him - Clifton is extremely knowledgeable about books and he should have something at least. Ernie Shepherd did a good history of the MGWR some years ago. Ebay or amazon might be able to help with this.

My grandad was givin a copy of Ernie Shepherd book before he died and that book as well as rails to Achill made me love the Midland great western railway but I never knew about Clifton Flewitt but I may have already met him when renewing me membership stuff at the Blackrock show and I think I found a match to the red and cream liverys did they look like this 1585168192019149855212.thumb.jpg.6087481b577bf78399d16773d515a358.jpg

It looks like buffer red but anyway I may as well start me crazy idea of building 7mm.I have found some old drawing of the station from 2011 I think(you may think it is not that old but whith the amount of suvays on that station) and a old station pic hope you all like.158516846202897776831.thumb.jpg.ce49d8c64b2416dbae7e0f59fada9529.jpg

We’re back to about 1936 for the next one, the morning Broadstone - Cavan train. It’s waaay out in rural wild remote culchie-land in a far off place like Blanchardstown or somewhere else “out there.....”

This seems to be the only pic taken by Snr. of a Cavan train.    And the day he went to Broadstone to witness the last trains leaving and coming in, he didn’t have his camera.....!

    Interesting

The cavan line is a realy good line to model.Cavan station had loads of different engines working line a G2 class (above) on the midland line to a U2 and PP class on the GNRI side. There seems to only be 3 or 4 6 wheel carriges on that train as the GSR wanted and did close the line as there was little to no passanger traffic.Go back 15 years before engines of the C class the midlands last passanger engine class wprked that line regularly.

It was much the same as it is now, and if it's in Midland days it'll look very colourful, as they painted their stations red and cream......

Thanks I did not know the colour I may start work on mock up  buildings for it

  9. More work on the Breden coach here on side of it has been repainted first in grey and second in green( the reason it is painted in grey is so the green sticks 10 times better and I have no primer)15850901885331579310374.thumb.jpg.bc72a16852d97bf16511a1891a52b2f1.jpg

As you can sea some parts around window are uneven and will be sanded down.I have also noticed that the flying snail on the green H van is on the wrong way so it must be fixed 1585090348209234918658.thumb.jpg.1c8c46620a629292831a867b15d49f55.jpg

Going back to the coach the roof will be the  original paint job that I first did it as it came out pritty good.15850904619251370106850.thumb.jpg.0769dafd9f8f82506da86e0f12c203b1.jpg

  10. I am thinking of going into 7mm sratch building soon as I may build a model of Moate railway station in 1920. the reason is that I use to walk down there when I was 3 or 4 years old before they put in the cycle way does anyone know where I could get pics of the station at that time? (By the way this idea is long term )

    Hi Midland

That looks like an old Triand Hornby coach from the 1970's is that correct?

If the colour on the coach is as it looks in your pic, it's pretty close indeed but a little bright, but the "Bredin" green may be seen in reality in Malahide (once it reopens!). Talking which i was talking with the manager of it and the actual castle today and he says that it won't be "for the foreseeable future".

Was already there will be going when reopens to looks at MGWR blue

  12. Hello all

Work for tonight is the old breden coach.First I have sanded The coach down and then since all my primer is gone going to be  painted in grey as It will help the paint stick.15850018900931414370970.thumb.jpg.d88971470e49f311212a65f49b26bccf.jpg

when I was sanding the coach down the coaches first livery(very light revel green which was imposible tp get pf the brush) that I had pit on looks vey like GSR green. The first image is the revel paint (sorry that it is blurred) the second is a is a pic of a model made after the death of Fry but using so GSR paint he got in Inchicore.20200323_224248.thumb.jpg.c478c898a66d1fce4677d9f75de8a921.jpg

    20200323_224237.thumb.jpg.1b27700a4eea0d9772cdb2f25e57afb3.jpg

I think they both look the same.
