  1. I went to Tralee about a 4 years ago at about 11 o clock at night to look around the station. The went to killarney rail station trying to get a train to Tralee but found out you can not due to the design of the station.

If it wasnt for Thomas the Tank Engine I probably would've never gone near the hobby if I'm honest. It's a great gateway for many children to play with trains and be introduced to them. How is that or a famous loco like Flying Scotsman a bad thing if it raises the profile of the hobby?

I phased it wrong I meant the animated show not the classic tv show or the books

  3. Hello all

The reason I wanted to ask this question is because I find now that people find the hobby weird. They only think of Thomas the tank or Flying scotsman which makes the hobby look bad in a way.I also find that modeling modern railways is a little boring for a young child. As one of the younger members of this forum my interest in model railways is the MGWR 1920s to the 1950s .The reason being is books like rail to Achill and Ernie Shepards Midland great western railway were the  two books that were available to me as my grandad had a interest in local history and of the railways. Hope you all like.

  5. I think Fry had a model shop or something but once heard that someone made MGWR F class ready to run engine in the 1930s. There is a house near me that had Basset Louke engines runing in his back garden in the 30s and bits of coaches lasted until the 70s may be still of his stuff still there.

The late Bob Clements told me that he would give me a “stick” with MGWR paint on it.

He was in Broadstone one time and while they were only painting engines black at the very end, he found a tin of loco green. He went off and found what he described as a “bit of a stick”, and came back and gave the paint a good stirring, wrapped the stick in newspaper and took it home.

I promised to call with him to collect it. Several weeks passed and I had this in the back of my mind.

Then one morning a friend rang me to say that he had passed away.

I learned a sharp lesson that day. When someone of that stature offers information to you, you stop EVERYTHING and go. Now. RIGHT now.

I’d love to have that stick! But I never saw it, after all.

    Real pity

I have a pic of j18 Luna but I cannot seem to find it.It show the engine in ots original livery and flyaway cab must make one of them as well as a B and H class.
