Thanks for info. They might be easily remedied without too much expense. A tractor with a hedge saw could cut the hedge rows right back along the route in about eight weeks. Then some serious weed spraying with simazine and paraquat will not only kill the weed but persist in the ballast for nearly 12months stopping regrowth. Aside from structures like the bridges and aqueduct the major cost would be the track work and re-ballasting if needed. I presume that section was upgraded to concrete sleepers in the 90s so the track may not be in bad condition, but if wooden sleepers the cost could be vastly higher. If they get the line earning revenue, and gradually bring it up to higher running speeds, in years to come they could run cruise liner pax specials from Foynes to Limerick during the cruise ship season. There is a fabulous little 'pullman' style train that brings cruise ship pax from Civitavecchia into Rome.
A far as I know the line is all wooden sleepers and the whole lot would need to be replaced.

Hi snapper, sorry our posts crossed, was on the phone. Yes I can see freight only keeping the cost down. The viaduct looks a little shaky!
Found a few interesting links:
https://irishrailwaydevelopments.wordpress.com/2013/12/09/railfreight-from-foynes-again
Even before the line was disconnected in Limerick no trains were allowed past Ballingrane due to structural condition of Robertstown
-
One possible saving grace when it comes to cost is that it only needs to restored as a freight line, if its 25mph all the way it doesn't really matter but there could be a number of bigger financial costs like Roberstown viaduct.

I have a few non Irish books for sale, €5 each they are all hardbacks. Unfortunately due to the size and weight they will be €8 each to post (except A history of the steam train workhorse which is €5) If you buy more than one there may be savings on combined postage
Alternatively they can be collected Limerick city.

Now, you'll definitely have to negotiate with the Ministry of the Interior for this one, but this is a bid on it, maybe by a club….

It might be simpler to get planning permission for a real railway

I am pretty sure (assuming this is the same as most other forums I use) you cant copy and paste a table from word into a post but you can create a table in a post manually using the table button. An alternative here might be to attach the word document to the post.

That's eminently sensible - the cement bubble might be a good place to start - popular, unique, and probably required in some numbers.
I could see a RTR bubble being hugely popular, particularly if the price is right.

If a Mark IV DVT was being produced i would want it done right (Directional lights etc) & with the matching coaches otherwise your taking a huge gamble on an inferior model. The bar has been raised by Murphy's Models & i would like to keep it there!!!
Actually (I may be alone here) I would like to see Murphy's Models lower the bar a little, NOT in terms of the physical quality but scale back a little say with the inclusion of a speaker. Sure it's nice to have it if you want sound but I would prefer it to be an option to fit one later for those that want it and reduce the cost of the model in the first place.
-
In principal I have no objection to pre paying for a model but there would need to be a lot more confirmed details before I actually commit money. For myself I have five main concerns / questions
1. What Model / Livery
2. What price
3. Quality control
4. Risk of failure
5. Who is running the show / producing the model

I used green mineral felt as an underlay before, it looks ok on OO gauge would would be more at home on O gauge. It does have some affect on sound damping but as I have never used cork before I cant compare them. I found the best way to fix it to the base board was using hot glue.

Just spotted this, I have no idea how good it is but for £2.92 (about €4) I figured it might be worth a shot
-
Ya the yards and sidings would be off limits to passengers so I guess it would have to be on a platform and platform availability varies a lot depending on where you want to stay and what time you want to leave in the morning. As for stations staying open I would guess that they would have to pay IE to have the relevant station manned all night?? or maybe they are planning a late departure from one location and slow move to another??
