Possibly "Webbs Mill" Mallow private siding at Quarterstown off the Mallow-Killarney line. Originally a flour mill later used for handling bitumen traffic closed 1977.

yes that is where the photo is taken. IRRS went to some more obsure places too

  2. Yesterday yielded a successful cutting of the board I’ll use. Yeah it’s not the best bit of plywood you have ever seen but it will do the job just fine. I didn’t have a great workshop, nor are my skills at woodwork anywhere near as good as they should be. So it was off the Beal Na Blath where a better equips man and workshop was waiting

the plywood came from the farmyard surplus of off cuts. Once twas sanded and rounded at the edges it was perfect. The lamp bracket came from an Irish rail lamp that was thrown in the skip, recovered from said skip and kindly given to me

holes were countersunk into the peice so we could use a very strong adhesive to directly glue the headboard design onto the plywood

many thanks to Micheal Lenton for helping me out with this one.

I know that 2700 units used to be used in pairs on a Limerick to Nenagh service around the turn of the century where once reaching Nenagh, the set would split with one half continuing to Ballybrophy with the other half returning to Nenagh. Not sure why they stopped doing this kind of service, would be a great idea for these kinds of lines, ie Waterford to Clonmel and on to Limerick Jnct with one half returning to Waterford…

Would still need an extra driver though right? And somone to detach the railcars

Did Irish rail ever use the gangways in service?   Say for example, Galway and Mayo trains combining at Athlone and opening the gangways to have access through the whole train?   Fort William and Oban trains join and divide at Crianlarich on the West Highland line   Perhaps as a compromise on the recent proposal for the Wexford line, more frequent four coach trains from Wexford or Rosslare with gangways front and back could be combined with similarly equipped new four car Darts at Greystones or Bray. No passenger transfers required.

They used the gangways on the suit lee knot railtour 😁. @Niles might know about everyday services I presume they did. Don’t think they do it anymore. Attached below is some of the interesting sites of a gangway linked 2600

The original and best livery! Do some of them still have their front gangways? If so, I hope its applied to some of those for the real authentic look!

It feels like yesterday when they first came out ....

Yeah the unit in question is 2601/02. It still has its gangways. An authentic (ish) return of the arrow livery

  7. A slightly different story

    An interesting discovery

Kevin meany posted recently on the GSRPS Facebook group about some of the loco plates he has as decoration on his layout. Upon posting the sulzer plates, the group realised these plates were not like the ones off the B101 class

Well upon further investigation by myself, @jhb171achill and kevin, between us we found out that these plates belonged to none other then CIE Diesel Pioneer B113. Kevin has had them for years and has never once thought about where they actually came from!

So have a look at your layout bits….you never know what you might find!

Funny thing Westcork, mine also stripped the pinion gear within a few hours running. Rodrick did supply a new gear FOC for me to fit. I have washerd the lateral play to the absolute minimum keeping the worm in the centre of the pinion. Although with straight cut gears that should not be so much of a problem. The worm teeth on my loco are so sharp you could shave with it!

Yup, sounds identical to what happened to mine. And Rodrick had it repair d free of charge including the postage to get it there and back but alas it still isint working right. I love 00 works and I without them there is no way in hell I would have ever gotten a RTR CBSCR loco (the most unlikely thing ever) but it’s purley for stationary use nowadays.

It looks like a couple of J15s had gearbox issues in Raheny in 2022 ....

I remember attending the Blackrock show in 2022 and a J15 was working Castletown/ballygluin. I went there around midday and watched the J-15 completely fail meaning a deisal sun had to come in. The lads were not pleased and I explained to one of them my issues with my loco. I think one of them offered to fix mine free of change, but that was too generous an offer for me so I refused. I think they eventually managed to fix it (posted in this thread somehere)

On fictional liveries, someone (maybe it was on this group?) had one done up in freight grey, looked quite well I thought...

That’s it! I remember the owner numbered is 213 because that was the one named river not that flowed through foxford and ballina, where he was hoping this livery would by applied to 201s!

  10. Hate to be pessimistic but. Wouldn’t be suprised if pre orders were cancelled and everyone having to pre-order again via rails system. Credit card information is one of things that those pre-orders hinged on from memory

  11. Yup. The reason they were got rid of them was a slightly non standard design next to something like a J26

the model itself just does not work. For all me and Rodrick attempts to make it work. The gears just wear themselves to naff. I suspect it’s something to do with the wheels as a pose to the worm and wheel like I previously suspected.

I’ll still keep it because these locos often worked Cork-Kinsale. I don’t run models all that often anyway. It’s just a shame this model will likely never run again unless I paid for serious surgery

there's no way under the sun they'd allow it to go nose first, so pairing will, I guess, be mandatory.

From what I have heard it is indeed possible to do this as long as you have somone on the other side of the cab. of course maintaining a turntable is much cheaper then paying for a 2nd man to be there (remember these were the days where they were trying to bring costs down) to get rid of the fireman and the driver to just the driver.

And it’s not like all of the cravens have to be in use either. I know that effects finances but my interpretation is diesel is cheaper to run then steam!
