  1. Here's the schedule for the IWT liners taken from one of the IRRS journals. From what I have seen from videos on Youtube the IWT liners don't head straight down Alexandra Road on arrival at North Wall. A lot of the time the loco seems to be taken off the liner and used to shunt in the yard before bringing the train into the port. I don't know the Tara mines trains timetable but I will see if can I get it for you.

    8:15 Ballina-North Wall IWT Mon-Fri

    09:35 North Wall-Ballina IWT Mon-Fri

    11:05 Ballina-North Wall IWT Wed

    14:00 North Wall-Ballina IWT Thur

  2. Some freight and departmental workings filmed in Kildare including 088 heading light engine from Limerick to Inchicore to collect wagons, 226 with the North Wall to Ballina IWT liner, 088 returning to Limerick with two pocket wagons and a tara mines wagon, 224 with the Ballina to North Wall IWT liner, 078 running around in Kildare on the Waterford to Westport empty timber train whilst a health and safety crew tests the coupling and uncoupling of the train and 220 with the second North Wall to Ballina IWT liner.

Footage of Intercity passenger services at Kildare consisting mostly of 22000 class units of various forms with some Cork services consisting of push pull mk4 coaches pushed and pulled by 201 class locomotives.

  3. Biomass traffic? Tell me more. Are these wagons that were in storage, or just reconditioned/overhauled wagons that are currently in use?

Apparently there will be a Biomass train operating between Belview and Ballina sometime in the future. I saw a couple of those wagons up close in Kildare a few weeks ago and they look very pristine. One or two of them had those white steps over the buffers and the steel floors. Maybe these were used for permanent way work previously? IMAG0142.jpg

    grand little things...wheres me gun?

Thanks Heirflick. Well one of the gates I had to go through to take that photo had a sign saying "Thomastown Gun Club" on it. I think the gun would be better used if it were turned on the people vandalizing the station at Thomastown.

  5. A video of passenger services at Thomastown followed by the Belview to Portlaoise steel train.

A video of passenger service at Kilkenny followed by a shot of 082 hauling the Waterford to Westport timber through Thomastown station. There wasn't much trash from 082 unfortunately as I was on the wrong side of a speed restriction at Legan just outside Thomastown station.

Some shots taken shortly afterwards at Thomastown viaduct.
