Truly inspirational Well done! I love the scratchbuilt wagons too.

Because Waterford Drivers Depot cover Rosslare Drivers Depot for sickeness, Annual Leave etc. So a number of drivers know the Rosslare line to provide cover when required.
A Portlaoise PerWay Driver was to take the train forward from Connolly.
Thanks for the info. Hope you catch the panel train.

On the way back from Portlaoise(I wonder why i was up there:)), I spent a bit of time trying to find the long closed Portlaoise line from Ballyragget south to Kilkenny. To be honest even trying to find the alignment was hard in places but the odd telegraph pole gave the alignment away.

Nice pics Tom. I was cutting grass down on the former line yesterday. My grandad has a section of it at the end of his garden.

Thanks.
That Panel Train won't depart until next week somestage. Only one route it will take and that's via Connolly. Why go via Waterford when A: far more resource intensive to operate over the mothballed South Wexford. B: Two run arounds required at Rosslare Strand / or Europort and Kildare compared to a straight run up the DSE, around North Dublin and then down the GSR to Portlaoise.
The Wanderer.
I was thinking that alright, I just wanted to be sure. But why would they have a Waterford driver? That was what led me to believe it was going via Waterford. Thanks for the reply

A day of mixed fortunes in the Sunny South East. After travelling to Wexford in the morning to photograph the Panel Train from Wexford to Portlaoise, it turned out it was cancelled due to no driver being available. Several cars were reported to have done U Turns on the N11 Dublin - Wexford Road after the news broke.
As I knew the 1130 Waterford - Westport Ety. Timber was operating and the original plan to get it near Waterford now impossible due to lack of time, plan B was put into action. Up to Enniscorthy, perfectly timing it to photograph the 0940 Connolly - Rosslare Europort passenger and then cross country via the R702 and L3001 roads to Muine Bheag and I arrived at Fenniscourt with only minutes to spare for the nice surprise of 209 on the timber. A good end to the day.
Enjoy!
The Wanderer.
Those were great pics of 209, I got a video of it yesterday on the DFDS liner. Do you know when the rail train is departing and what route it is taking?
-
Nice work Tom. 209 is in Waterford tonight by the way.
-
There's something similar in use on the cable train in this video.
-
Brilliant video and photo, but did that driver come over specifically from his seat to wag an admonishing finger at you???
He has to move to the right hand side of the cab so he can see the signal on the loop as the curve is too tight to see it from the other side.
-
I know it's pretty much the same as your panel wagon but how about a timber wagon or some kind or bogie flat?
-
This is great scratch building. The accuracy of your models is amazing.

Wasn't the old "plan" for 087 to be sent to the grave yard and used for parts? I read somewhere that the orange 071s (077, 078, 084 and 087) were to be withdrawn and used for parts. It's a good thing that didn't happen.

Maybe there's a train enthusiast among them. It's a terrible waste, I always wondered what they would have looked like in silver.
-
Nice pics Tom. I got 076 and the pockets myself today. The yellow container reminded me of the CIE ones from a distance. Has much been done with the mk3s?
-
Looking great Anthony.

There are a few pics of the last fire engines in Inchicore in this thread on boards.ie, post number 1340. AFAIK there is no longer a fire brigade in Inchicore.

Thanks, I knew I saw pics of a Dennis in Inchicore somewhere.
-
Those are great pics. I'm going to have a set up similar to that on my layout.
-
I just came across this page which shows lots of interesting photos of the fire brigade in Inchicore and the vehicles used.

If you look at the Modelshop Belfast facebook page you will see pictures of NIR intercity mk2s which they are selling.

Great shot!
-
Does anyone know where it is going to after it gets back to Waterford from Rosslare?
-
Great job on 077 and 8113. I thought the bridge was excellent also
-
I just came across this. I don't know how many of you have seen this before but it's a great looking layout.
-
I said I'd go out with my camera just to be sure in case it was going to Kilkenny but I forgot about it too. How do you know where the train is destined for if it is a mystery train? Great pics by the way.

I was using elestic bands to hold a container on the wagons and then heated it. But I must have been heating it too much as the resin was becoming very soft and flexible and the bands were ruining the shape. I will try a more soft handed approach to heating it tonight.
NIR 209 Hauling Waterford Freight
in Photos & Videos of the Prototype

209 found itself on a lot of freight recently and I made the most of its presence on the line. It may return next week so if I get anymore videos I'll add them to the thread.
