  1. Regrettably my email to MM customer service,re baffling detailing items, generated an automated reply, ‘if you have warranty problem contact the stockist you purchased from’. ‘MM is a trade only supplier’ etc. Does anyone have a contact email for Paddy Murphy ? or would they contact him on my behalf please. See photo below. Thanks

  2. I wanted to purchase TPO, Heating Vans and 5 1951/53 coaches from Silver Fox. They only produce Irish models in August, so I have to wait till 2022 if not longer. There is a market gap out there waiting to be filled !

  3. I am still baffled by 2 detailing items in the kit supplied, 3 tiny grey (possibly lamp brackets) why 3 & not 4 ! A black cylindrical object with a narrow pipe extending from top outwards & then a short bend. It fits on the stub situated on the 2nd roof panel behind the cab.

I have examined Ernie’s photos of 121 class, kindly posted by ‘Old Blarney’ David White, and can’t see a black cylinder type object.

    Help !

As the ballasts basically ran semi-permanently in fixed rakes it may not make a lot of sense to be spending money on Kadees etc. between each wagon in the rake, when a simple fixed coupling bar will do. They weren't really shunted as they were all going to the quarry or work site together usually. When I eventually have a layout, that's how I'll do it. Kadee on the ends of the fixed rake only. Food for thought maybe.

Agreed, I also have fixed rakes of BR wagons to which I have fitted Kadees and removed the Trip pins. I have Hunt couplings fitted to my suburban passenger stock with Kadees on each end.

  5. 9 CIE IRM Ballast wagons arrived yesterday. Now to go about fitting Kadees ! From my bad experience of trying to convert Lima Mk1’s with Kadees I came across Matt at Vectis Model Rail. Emailed him yesterday re Ballast wagons and he suggested his Bachmann Prairie NEM converter, Prairie comes with cranked TLC. I have ordered some to see it they suit and I will post the results, if not, I will send Matt a ballast wagon and he will make a suitable converter.

I know Noel has glued No.18’s under NEM pocket on IRM’s advice and it works, but I would rather find another substitute to glueing.

If you’re lucky you can run wires to the ‘oil lamps’ instead of to the headlight in the re-engined As, maybe use the same CV on DCC, or maybe from the marker lights? Maybe one for the DCC forum

I only intend to use lamps on A1 and will hopefully solder direct to base beneath decoder Pin 8 & Pin 16 tabs. 🙏

    Fowler 4f,

My pleasure. I'm glad I have been of assistance to you. I'm of an age to remember the introduction of the GNR (600) and CIÉ (2600) Railcars as well as the A and C class locomotives. If my aged memory can be of assistance just ask!

    Regards,

    Old Blarney.

    Old B,

At the age of 11 yrs old (1966), while on holidays in Galway, I used to shunt the yard on an A class with Driver Pierce Wade making up the evening goods train. I emigrated in 1978 and became a Driver on British Rail at Waterloo, London, I retired in 2016.

    Regards

    F4f.

  8. I replaced the tension lock couplers on MM 1508 with Kadee No.20, the swallow tail is approximately 2mm short. Is there a Kadee solution to this problem ? Or will I just “weld” a No.20 in position with Superglue ?

    Thanks
