Have you tried Studio Scale Models?

I looked and it seems the A Class transfers are in black, which is fine for front end panels but the side numbers need to be in white. Thanks

  2. I liked the A12 so much I purchased two. My problem is how to renumber the 2nd loco. I looked on Railtech site and didn’t find anything suitable, has anyone renumbered A12/A15 or A55 ? As you need two different size transfers for loco front and sides.

I would appreciate any advice, (1) how to remove letter/numbers and (2) where to source replacement letter/numbers.

    Thanks.

hi the shell comes off these quite easily.  no screws and as far as i am aware no clips.

its similar to the plough van process so grab a leap card and work it in around the edges between the shell and chassis ,the shell should gently wiggle off. the cabs stay attached to the body then and i have not removed those so i cannot help further, that should explain the hard part though.

when holding the chassis do not hold onto any of the plastic boxes as they clip on and off quite easily, to get the leverage you need hold onto the metal box on the chassis, this is part of the casting and rock solid.

    Thanks Sean, that’s most helpful.

Just need advice on cab removal ?

Perhaps a bit late in the day, but I feel I should point out that in spite of the designation the Irish Mk2D coaches are based on the British Rail Mk2E bodyshell not 2D.

The toilets are to the later smaller 2E design and are diagonally opposite on the Open Standards (as per BR 2E and 2F) not the same side as with the BR Mk2D.

Md2d new for £23 each, the vinyl overlay should cover the toilet windows 🤞

I think with it being n and so small i started with one end and sort of rolled it on, but its over a year ago so i cant remember for sure, one thing i do remember was that they had to be cut out of a larger piece with a scissors, no nice perforation around the shape to peel away.

there was another company that did them called electra rail and i was dissapointed that i did not try them instead of the ebay ones as the quality looked a bit better.

    Thanks Sean.

ive done these mk3's in n..... not sure but i think its the same seller its a while ago now. initially i recieved transfers very close to the "executive" coach colour but once i complained i was sent another set.

they do the job but not sure i would buy again, i would definitely go for a more expensive set.

Hi Sean, did you apply from middle or end of coach ?

  8. Has anyone successfully applied Adhesive Vinyl Coach Decals to Hornby Mk2d coaches,
I not sure whether to start applying from the centre or the end of the coach ?

This works out at approx £31 instead of some of the exorbitant prices for MM coaches on EBay.

    Thanks.

Are the sound decoders limited runs or are they in constant production? since after all the actual decoder itself is going to be in constant production.

I have purchased 121/ 141/ 181/ 071 & 201 from Wheeltappers DCC sound in UK all in the last six months. I am waiting for two 071 SD to arrive today.

I have ordered A42 & 129/134 from Chris Dyer, he has a good stock of A Class / 121 locos.

  10. I have purchased from Chris Dyer approx £2K,  excellent vendor. Contact him on 07966 694579 or enquires@chrisdyerfairs.co.uk. He had lots of Irish stock till I raided his stock room ! 🥳. Joking aside, he travels to Ireland quite a lot as well. I was lucky this month to pickup 071 on here for €250, for me £217. EBay is more expensive.

Should you get a 141/181 in the future , I would suggest that you solder/hard wire the speaker cables to the PCB as shown in Flange Lubricator  link  / photo below.

Yes , you can solder speaker cables to your sound decoder.

I would not recommend to solder cables for speakers on the sound decoder as you will have to unsolder them in the future to fit the sound decoder in the A Class and also the sound decoder may get damaged aswell from the soldering which may also invalidate the warranty too.

It should be interesting to a 141/181 as it is 12 cylinder instead of the 8 cylinder sound .

I must try this on the next club night

Thanks Joe, the easier the better. Solder to PCB is simple procedure compared to tiny solder tabs on SD. 😀  Let me know how you get on at club with fitting. I’m sure others maybe interested as well. 👍
