  1. Nice one for the comments lads, the orange ones would be nice but they wouldn t fit in with the era :(

3 left to repaint, replaced a few axles and added a few top hat bearings so they re all running a little too well now!!!. In fairness to the original builder he done a pretty good job with the builds but i wanted to tweak them a little to ensure very good running.

Many thanks to Redrich for the pics that he posted up in the Prototype section, they came in nice and handy for the detailing bits.

Slowly working my way through the bubbles, a lot of work to be done to each of them but i'm enjoying every minute of it :) . I raided the spares box for a load of bachmann slimline couplings which i fitted to each of the wagons using a 071 coupling to ensure the height was right, after testing the full rake behind an 071i startedwork on the bodies which required a lot of filling and sanding, luckily i had a tin of phoenix paints mir ivory paint to hand. I then proceeded to paint all the bubbles which was completed last night. I ve now started on the chassis 's.

I'm still unsure about the decals etc but will probably go with the railtec option.

  3. Generally i agree about the new motors but id generally do an annual examination of the mechanisms etc. The 071/201's haven t had much need for maintence but the 141/181's are starting to need a little bit more work. ANY secondhand purchases always get a full check up when they arrive whereas the new from the shop get only a good run in. All 50 plus locos run excellently now, even the a class is behaving itself :) .

Surprisingly the bachmann cl 66 chassis under the kitbuilt 201's are still out performing the mm 201's. The athearns are still as noisy as ever !!!!

  4. In the middle of servicing my lot :( , the murphy locos like all locos need a good run in when new and after a service as well. Generally i give the wheels a good clean, i also clear any debris that may be near the pick ups. I also take the bogie covers off and aply a small bit if oil (peco lube). I also give the body a good clean and finally put the loco back together and test run the loco for 30 mins in each direction.

  5. Well there must be some other Bachmann centre drive chassis that would fit, even if a bo-bo. I'd sacrifice scale authenticity on the under frame and bogies to get a stunning and reliable runner like MM. 100% pure scale that runs poorly ends up a static junk display at some outpost on a layout. I'd rather a loco that is useable as a loco rather than just a good looker that can't run smoothly over points.

Theres always a slighly shortened athearn sd 9 chassis or take the bogies, drive shafts and motor out of a bachmann cl 55 and build a new chassis.

  6. The rtr ones are pretty expensive especially with the euro/sterling exchange rate, plus it could be a while before the order would be ready to send. Have to agree with the lads the fastest way is to get the kit and add the ssm detail pack. Or put an ad in the wanted section in case any if the lads have a spare one.

  7. You have most BnT livery but I know you have some in orange. You got me thinking because I purchased some of these used so I thought the horns might have been embellished by the original owner. So I looked at some of the IR & IE 141s that I bought 'new' and 146 IE has a sealed detailing pack with orange horns!

IE ones have orange horns, Cie & IR have black
